Recapping Our Anime Reviews of 2020!
We just recapped all our Manga Monday reviews of 2020. So let’s do it for our anime reviews!
Watched but Not Reviewed: Case Closed, Dr. Stone, Beastar
First up, Somila and the Forest Guardian. This anime was awesome for the first handful of episodes. Sadly I have not revisited this one since about Episode #3. This one is definitely worth your time! I rated it 9.75 out of 10. Gem. Read the full review here.

Tower of God was next. Probably the only anime I watched the full season of. This one is like Game of Thrones meets a fantasy-esque anime world. I would give it about a 9 out of 10

A Destructive God Sits Next to Me. This was almost too weird upfront. I’m glad a stuck with it because its humor started meshing really well with myself. Ultimately, I really enjoyed this one. Read the full review here.

Up next, The God of High School. This was a modern day nostalgia trip. Gather all the best high school fighters in the world and bring them together for a tournament. This one reminds me of old school Dragon Ball Z and Yu Yu Hakusho. Read my full review here.

Goblin Slayer. A divisive anime. I enjoyed the first episode and loved Goblin Slayer the main character. The Priestess however is super bland and not compelling at all. Overall, I have not felt too much need to go watch the latest episodes. Read the full review here.

Cells at Work. As someone who wanted to go for Biology to college, this anime was a blast to watch. I do want to get back to this one eventually. Read the full review here.

I’m Standing on a Million Lives. The anime that broke the blog haha. This became our first blog post to hit 100 views. Now it has over 300 views. Read the full post here.

One Punch Man. One of the first mangas we reviewed on the blog. I did not like the manga too great. However, people have been requesting me to watch the anime for about 5 years. I finally took the dive and watched the first anime. It was pretty darn good. Read my full review here.

Golden Kamuy. One of those pleasant surprise animes. I had never head of this anime. I enjoyed it a lot. Read the full review here.

Jujutsu Kaisen. This anime feels like you are watching the next best thing. I really hope this anime holds up in the long run.

Burn the Witch. From the mind of the guy who came up with Bleach. This anime might be one of my favorites from the last round of animes. Read the full the review here.

Noblesse. I don’t believe this anime was well received. There were parts of it I enjoyed a lot, though it was a strange anime for sure. Be sure to read the full review here.

Lastly, The Misfits of Demon High Academy. This anime has a strong foundation. I actually watched the dub and I got to say, the actors were pretty good. Read the full review here.

We reviewed a lot of great animes last year. A lot that I would love to watch all the way through, but there’s so many good ones! Be sure to let me know what animes we should review this year.
Recapping All Our Manga Mondays for 2020!
As discussed, this last Monnday was the last of the year. Meaning no more Manga Mondays for 2020. I thought it would be fun to recap what all we read.
Read But Not Reviewed: Eden Zero Volume 1-3.
Reviewed:
Rebirth Volume #1. Reviewed January 6th. Last Christmas my brother got me the first 22 volumes of Rebirth. We reviewed the first one to start the year off. It scored an 8 out 10. It wasn’t groundbreaking but it was just very solid for what it was. Read the full review here.

Rave Master Volume #1. Reviewed May 11th. This manga was a bit more up my alley as from as the genre. It plays out like most action orientated mangas of the late 90’s. Staring a teenage male who comes into possession of mystical, world saving weapons and items. This was the manga that helped jumpstart Hiro Mashima, writer of Fairy Tail, into the world renowned Mangaka he is today. It scored a 7.5 out of 10. Read my full review here.

Dragon Eye Volume #1. Reviewed June 8th. Take the same description from above. Boy comes into possession of a mystical, world saving weapon and item. Only this manga felt a lot more gritty and serious kind of in the same way Naruto could be really serious compared to One Piece. We gave Dragon Eye a 7 out of 10. Read my full review here.

Jujutsu Kaisen Volume #1. Reviewed October 19th. Maybe my favorite manga I reviewed this year. That’s very tough to call. However, this really felt like you were reading the next big thing. I did thoroughly enjoy this manga. This is backed up by the fact I scored it a 9 out of 10 stating it had all the makings of a classic. Read the full review here.

Zombie Powder Volume #1. Reviewed December 22nd. Again we find ourselves retracing roots. This was the debut manga from famous Mangaka Tite Kubo, author and creator of Bleach. The writing can be weird at times but if you enjoy early Dragon Ball mangas, you are going to love this manga. I scored it a 7 out of 10. Read the full review here

Psyren Volume #1. This manga started off all over the place and almost lost me several times. By the end of it, I was glad I stuck with it and finished it. I actually enjoyed it a lot. This book feels like it might have a lot going for it as the story progresses. Definitely worth the read. I rated it 7 out of 10. Read the full review here.

Scoring Breakdown:
0-6: 0
6.1-7: 3
7.1-8: 1
8.1-9: 1
9.1-10: 1
Average score: 7.583
Honestly, the main reason so many scored 7’s is because I felt like I enjoyed them a lot but the general public might not as much. Honestly, Rave Master might be my favorite I reviewed all year, but I know it got lost in the shuffle of the Narutos, One Pieces, and Bleach of the world. All in all, I liked every book I read. It is amazing how many mangas I bought this year and just how few reviews I did. It is really indictive of how hard momentum could be to keep this year.
Let me know what mangas I should review next year! Thank you for reading and have a great day.
The Misfits of Demon High Academy Episode #1
Jessica and I were staring at the endless sea of anime available on Crunchyroll. We struggled to really pick an anime. We wanted a comedy that also had action. We had been enjoying some of the more off beat anime like Girlish Number. We also figured with a name like The Misfits of Demon King Academy this was going to be a light hearted school yard comedy.

We were wrong.
As discussed, we went in expecting everything previously mentioned. Well the show was far from light hearted. There really wasn’t too much in the way of school yard antics. And it really wasn’t a slice of life anime. Instead it is mystical thrill ride filled with mythology, spells and plenty of combat. I like to think of it like the old school animes like Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, or Yu Yu Hakusho if you just jumped straight into the combat only.

Now that’s not to say they’re isnt time for character development, plot advancement or world building. Trust me, theres plenty of that too. It’s just the show never makes you wait too long for another fight or cool magic tricks. In fact the world building is mostly being teased at the moment and it very enjoyable. We know there are plenty of types of spells: teleportation spells, revival spells, origin spells. There’s plenty going on here. We know there are several elder families all vying for that role as the demon king. And we know there was an era of great magic in the past.
The first thing you notice is, that for an English Dub, the voice acting is great. Anos and Misha voice actors really killed it here. The side character’s voice actors all really shine too. The world seems to be well crafted. However, since everything is in the teasing and infancy phase, I don’t want to give it too much created yet. As someone who enjoyed the Jutsu system of Naruto , I really dug the magic system here. We’ve gone over some of the types of magic above. I’m sure there’s plenty more styles and arts of magic just waiting to be discovered. The anime is also quality. The characters are a total blast and just compliment their magic using abilities.

Honestly, as I was watching this show, I could not find much wrong with it. Someone might could argue it is generic. I’ve never really been to hold that against an anime as long as it does the genre well. So, you wont se me dock too many points for existing in a crowded genre. However, the writing is truly a weak point for this anime. I don’t even thing its that bad, but it is pretty noticeable. The voice acting and animation is so clean that when a cheesy line sneaks in, you really notice how weird it sounds. Ultimately, it does not hurt the anime too bad, but it does stop it from being a perfect.
Recap: What a perfect mix of anime tropes. Blistering combat and over the top magic spells, impeccable voice acting, a cool and developing world and hints of romance and shady and interesting characters.
Action: Combat in the form of magic vs magic. It is pretty awesome.
Romance: Romance has been mostly used for humor believe it or not.
Plot: The plot, again, can sound generic at times. A person must rise to the top to claim the title of Demon King. However, the real enjoyment comes from watching the characters interact more so than a deep and compelling story.
Characters: Like most animes in this sector, the characters are good. The villains are good for what they are. Not major threats but they give us a taste of the social hierarchy. Anos and Misha make for engaging main characters you want to find more about.
The World: As said, I don’t want to give the world too much credit until we see become a bit more fleshed out.
Humor: When this anime isn’t fast paced combat, sometimes it will slow down to be funny. The humor is really sweet and funny or ironic from bad lines. But you should be laughing one way or the other.

Verdict: Perfectly enjoyable for the first episode. I want to see more of where this anime goes. I like its foundation a lot. There’s a lot lurking in the background. These things could make the animes score explode, but what if the writing and generic-ness of the genre hold it back in the end? A lot still hinges on the development of the world and characters.
Score: 8.5 out of 10. Check it out yourself. I had a lot of fun with this one and look forward to more episodes.
Thanks for reading! Have a great day!

Games That Could Have Saved The Wii U!
Burn the Witch Episode #1 and #2 Review (Anime Review) – A Real Cool Anime
A Christmas Memory!
Today, I just want to reminisce about a memory of my mom. My mom is kind of notorious at this point for just deciding what she is going to buy you instead of listening to what you ask (She will still ask you what you want though). At first this kind of got on my nerves. Then I realized it made Christmas exciting. One year, I just asked for a bunch of cool designed T’s centering around video games. She managed to buy just one of the correct shirts. The rest she just completely guessed on. For the most part she was in the ball park. However, some how one shirt she bought twice. And another of the shirts was a size too small, so Jessica just got that one. This year, she asked what underwear I use. I gave her the brand, size, and style. Well, she got the size and style right but bought a completely different brand. I definitely no longer hold this against her because, again, it adds a layer of surprise.

However, my favorite story, the one that stands out the most to me, is by far Christmas of 2014. I was a huge Wii U and 360 fan at this time. My 360 collection was massive and on the Wii U I had a lot of the highlights: Windwaker, 3D World, Smash Bros and a few more. Mom asked me what I wanted for Christmas and by far the games I wanted the most were Madden 15, Borderlands Pre-Sequel and Far Cry 4. Far Cry 4 had just come out around my birthday but I had to get Pokemon Alpha Sapphire. So it was high on my want list. My mom got me 3 video games that year.
Opening the first game: Madden 15. Nailed it.
Opening the second game: Borderlands Pre Sequel. We are rolling.
Down to the last game. It can only be one thing. My most anticipated game of the year (Left for me to get of course.) My dad actually got the original Far Cry on the Wii for my brother and I. We played it, we loved and we hated it due to motion controls. We skipped Far Cry 2. Far Cry 3 was released and became an instant classic. I was so confused. Everyone at my school loved it. Needless to say, I was determined to get my copy of Far Cry 4. Last present, here we go.
Opening the third game: NINTENDOLAND! More like NintenNO Land… I pulled my mother over to said and gave her a mental evaluation. I asked her how in the world she got Nintendoland out of Far Cry 4. I mean, I was even on the phone with my mom when she was in Gamestop. Her response, and I cannot make this up, “I thought you would have more fun with Nintendoland.”

This blew me away. At the time, she was definitely wrong. Borderlands, Bioshock, Modern Warfare 2, Gears of War, these were the games I loved playing back in 2014. I was a 19 year old college student. To think I would have more fun with a game that seemingly required 2 players was mind blowing. For the rest of the Christas break I did subject Jessica and family members to play it with me. Ultimately, I did learn to enjoy the game even though I mostly played the one player games like Yoshi and F-Zero. As time went on, I would bring my Wii U to friends and family houses and Nintendoland became a rotation favorite.
I went to Michigan to visit my cousin. He had a friend over and we played 4 player Nintendoland. They each said if they knew how fun this game was, they might would have bought the Wii U. This little game is far from great but it is a fun one for parties, casuals and hardcore games alike.
To this day, I still play Nintendoland and I have still yet to play Far Cry 4. The world is funny like that. The game is good and enjoyable, but the story attached is priceless. I hope you guys enjoyed this.

Happy Holidays and thanks for reading!
Manga Monday: Zombie Powder Volume #1 A Pleasant Surprise!
Tite Kubo is a household name as far as mangas go. He created Bleach, very long, previously ongoing series. Bleach ran for 74 volumes over the course of 15 years! He has since gone on to write Burn the Witch! If I sound excited, is it because we recently reviewed the anime- which I loved. Check out my review of Burn the Witch here. But, as the title suggest, this isn’t about Bleach or Burn the Witch. This is about Tite Kubo’s origin story, his debut, Zombie Powder!

Over the summer, I stumbled upon this manga in a 2nd and Charles. I did not recognize the name because I had never experienced Bleach and Burn the Witch had yet to release. Though, reading the back revealed the author’s impressive history and a plot I wanted to dive into. Needless to say, at $3.50, I dove in. This is a book that kept on giving. 7 chapters and nearly 200 pages of sheer manga action. The second half of the book was a thrill ride much like the first half. However, the second half takes place exclusively in a bandit’s compound. Meaning, with tight rooms, black and white art, and insane energy from sword fights, sometimes the plot and even the action was hard to follow. But that really was my only complaint. The writing is borderline juvenile but hey, he was 22 years old when he wrote this and I find the childish nature of these mangas charming. The characters are perfect for this style of book. They all can be very funny, very personal, easily enraged, and eager to fight. Throw all these characters together, the good guys and the bad guys, and you have a real recipe here. Factor in the fact the setting is a Western with over the top guns and kickbutt swords with fighting scenes that do not hold back, and this is a real page turner.

The story centers around two guys on a quest for the 12 Rings of the Dead which can either revive the dead or grant the living eternal life. Gamma Akutabi is the main character. He is motivated by the thought of immortality. Elwood on the other hand is on a mission to revive a dead family member. They are a very genuine duo and I think that’s what I really appreciate about the manga. There’s a lot subtly in the dialogue. Akutabki and Smith are talking about how they would never partner with someone who would get themselves killed so easily. Yes, Akutabki and Smith are addressing each other but they are saying this to Elwood, who is a young, goodhearted kid. This scene really makes it appear Akutabki appreciates and respects Elwood despite the age difference. I just really like how to two play off of each other.

One complaint the manga developed over time was an uninspired plot an unoriginal character designed. Personally, neither of these bothered me at all. I can get gripes if you do not like this genre or maybe even getting burned out of the genre. However, if you really like this area of manga, this going to feel like home. In fact, part of the manga felt like those old school Dragon Ball adventures. The manga only ran for about a year so it should be easy to complete and read.

This manga is perfect for anyone who wants to relive the glory days of the early 90’s into the 2000. Naruto and One Piece were beginning to make their ascension into the goliathes of manga while Kubo was starting to make a name for himself. Filled with likable characters, questionable jokes and more severed heads and disembodied bad guys than you can shake a chainsaw sword at, Zombie Powder proves to be a nonstop joyride from the first page to the end of the chapter.
I’ll give it a very solid 7 out of 10. The criticism was all about how easily forgettable and lost in the shuffle this manga was. Now, while I enjoyed the first volume, no one ever talks about this series (I’m not sure how many even know it exist). Meaning, the critics, I guess, were right. However, I would love to find volume 2 for roughly the same price one day.
Coolest Pulls from Our Digimon The Card Game Booster Box!
Hey guys! Here’s another Digimon post. Hope you enjoy! This edition is about our pulls from our latest Booster Box unboxing. Let us know which one is your favorite.

These are cards from the Promo booster packs. I believe these were only available if you bought a booster box. I could be wrong about that.

Beelzemon is one of the 3 secret rares from the set. I haven’t got to use Leopardmon but Millenniummon is always an all-star when it hits the board.

We pulled 3 WarGreymon’s and Jessica uses all 3. His abilities are super great. Omnimon is considered one of the best cards, if not the best card in the set. His ability to straight up nuke your opponents best Digimon is an extremely powerful effect.

Piedmon was one of my favorite Digimons growing up. I actually built a purple deck around him but I’m missing Lilithmon to really make the deck work. Puppetmon has inspired me to build green when the next sets come out. Gabumon is one of the best blue digimons in the set. He is a free digivolve which would trigger 2 draw triggers.

Here’s an extended version of the same picture including the original art of Piedmon and the original art of Gabumon. Again, both sweet cards.
We also pulled a Diaboromon which is another candidate for strongest digimon in the set. We also had more promo art cards and some other Super Rares. I told Jessica to just take pictures of the highlights, so maybe I’ll do a part 2.
Either way. Hope you guys enjoyed. Let me know what cards you pulled.
Thanks for reading and have a great day!
Games That Could Have Saved The Wii U!
*This post was written towards the end of May! Enjoy!*
During the Wii U’s lifespan several games came out that didn’t make it onto the console. If the Wii U had landed some of these titles it definitely would have helped. You guys will see a lot of parallels between the N64 and the Wii U. Let’s go ahead and jump into this one.

JRPGS and RPGs in general were bare on the system, just like the n64. Of course you still got Paper Mario, Xenoblade, and of course Mass Effect 3. So with all that said my first pick is Persona 5. Personally, I haven’t been able to gravitate towards JRPGs, though I do certainly try. With all that said, there is no denying Persona 5s profound impact on the western market. To my knowledge, Persona, as far as a console release, has been exclusive to the PlayStation. Though, the 3ds did see some Persona releases on handheld. I’m not sure the Wii U ever had a chance of landing Persona 5, considering the Switch hasn’t even got a version. This would have been a huge get for the Wii U’s library.

Let’s keep the RPG train rolling. Fallout. Personally, I think New Vegas would be my choice here. If the Wii U had secured a definitive edition of Fallout New Vegas with all the DLC, I would’ve been all over that. If Fallout 4 had released on the Wii U, of course that would have helped the Wii U break the stereotype of being a “children’s unit”, but who knows if Fallout 4 could have even ran on the Wii U in the first place.

And to round out the RPG experience, Mass Effect Trilogy. I’m not sure about Bioware or EA’s relationship with Nintendo during this time, but the Wii U got Mass Effect 3 which just seems weird. I really wish the Wii U either got a separate release for each installment or the trilogy released later on. It’s so weird needing to buy Mass Effect 1 and 2 on Xbox just to jump on the Wii U to round out the trilogy. While this was weird to me, it’s far from the only example (as this also happened with the Batman games).

A Hat in Time- A Hat in Time was originally in the works for the Wii U. Overtime, that plan evaporated along with the hopes of a Nintendo Switch version. As time elapsed, A Hat in Time would finally make its way to the Switch. Sadly, for Wii U Collectors and players alike, this title was missed from the Wii U library.
Undertale- During the time of Undertale’s release I was playing my Wii U exclusively with a little Xbox One thrown in. As a result, I missed out on Undertale. If this game has found a way to end up on the Wii U I might have got around to playing this. As of now, I have yet to experience Undertale.

Rare Replay- When Rare Replay came out, Nintendo and Microsoft hadn’t quite struck up their friendship. Now a days, Banjo Kazooie has arrived on Switch via Smash Brothers. Also, Cuphead is available on Switch. We’ve yet to get any Rare games on the Switch to my knowledge. However, if people were able to play Banjo Kazooie, Conker, Battletoads or any of those Rare classic titles, I think people would have eaten up the nostalgia factor.
Lastly, for today’s post anyway, Super Mario Odyssey. Breath of the Wild may have ended up on the Switch also, but it was designed, in part, with the Wii U in mind. As a result, The Wii U got an absolute epic game in Breath of the Wild. Now, I have also said the Wii U desperately needed a 3D Mario game. Yes, 3D World was a great game yet if it was complimented with Odyssey, that would have solidified the Wii U’s library as top notch. Sadly, Nintendo saw the writing on the wall and bailed on Odyssey ever coming to Wii U. I think ultimately this was a smart decision due to how much Odyssey can be dependent on motion controllers. All that said, I wish the Wii U had received a title maybe more like a traditional Mario 64 title.

So that’s it for today. I’ve been merciless collecting for my Wii U, I only have about 30ish (at the time of writing this. Now I’m not down to 6!) titles left until I have a whole set. I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on the library. There’s plenty more games to discuss so expect more videos as time goes on. Thanks for reading guys and I’ll see you in the next one.
200th Post Celebration Part 3!
We are back at it. Maybe this will be the finale. We will see!
Read Part 1 Here!
Read Part 2 Here!
So, last time we left off we were wondering if all that moving, new space and office would provide a spark for the blog. Let’s revisit the summer of 2016.
I moved around April 6th. I did not make a post until July! So, yeah. So much for a renewed energy. I got a reason though. Once I moved in to my Dad’s pool house, I started working for him in construction. The work was not bad. I got up at 6am and rode with him to the job sites and we worked until about 6pm or later. I mostly did clean up and carrying materials that they would need. The bad part is the sun. I am pretty pale and get heat headaches very badly. Most days when I got home I would shower and go to bed. The pay was good and I could not complain. It was brutal on me though just for the headaches.
Finally in July, Pokemon Sun and Moon started releasing previews for their Pokemons. I loved this little segment of reviewing new Pokemons. Back than I gave Cutiefly’s name a 1 out of 10. The name has since grown on me, but it is still a bleh Pokemon.
In October, the world would be introduced to one of the best 3D Platformers of all time. Super Mar… A Hat in Time. What a great time to be a Platforming fan. A Hat in Time at the start of the month and Super Mario Odyssey at the end. Now, I wont revisit everything in this post. I think I am going to do a life review or something like that in the future. However, for now, let’s just look at the post themselves.
To no one’s surprise, I’m sure, 2016 was considerably worse than 2015. Despite the daily blogs of January, view counts and visitors fell. However, comments and likes picked up the slack. 2017 was an utter disaster. I made 3 post that whole year. Youtube was in full swing and I thought I would have to pay 60 bucks to post again, plus school. So, I just did not post a lot. 2018 was meant to be a resurgence. I made 12 post, mostly about video games, sales, and Youtube. If 2017 was bad, 2019 was weird. I made 4 of my favorite post that year. I also only made 4 post that whole year. Dr. Stone review, My Hero Academia Vol. #2 review, Girlish Number Episode #1 review and a post about Sword and Shield. However, I used that momentum I was able to generate to propel us into easily the best year of the blog ever, 2020. Yes how ironic the blog is doing amazingly this year of all years. haha. Check out the stats:
2015: 616 Views. 367 Visitors. 64 Likes. 26 Comments
2016: 556 Views. 322 Visitors. 120 Likes. 104 Comments.
2017: 245 Views. 113 Visitors. 8 Likes. 3 Comments.
2018: 552 Views. 249 Visitors. 17 Likes. 9 Comments.
2019: 292 Views. 201 Visitors. 6 Likes. 0 Comments.
2020: 1,376 Views. 975 Visitors. 77 Likes. 8 Comments.
2020 is on pace to triple views and visitors. In the early days of the blogs, I had some really good readers who liked and commented on most stuff. Nowadays, I still have some really good regulars (you know who you are guys!) who like a lot of my post but do not really comment a lot. That is fine. I am just glad people are reading my stuff. It keeps me going aside from my love of blogging. Let’s look at some of the post specifically.
Top 5 post of 2016 (not counting the welcome or home page, this will be true of all years.): Relife Volume #1 review, Happy Pokemon Day, Top Five Cards in BFZ, Manaphy Giveaway, and Food Wars Season #1 Review.
In 2017, Pokemon Day was the only post to crack double digits. It and Relife review were the only post to crack the top 5 views in 2016 and 2017. Food Wars cracked the top 5 in 2015 and 2016 but missed it in 2017 (it did not get 1 view all year… Ouch).
2018: Spread Awareness was number one followed by, Episode #1 of Yooka-Laylee, A Hat in Time DLC release, Top 5 Pokemon From Kanto I Never Used But Wanted To, and Pokemon Day. Spread Awareness being #1 is a total underdog story. That post was made in 2015 and it surged to the top. Pokemon Day cracks the top 5 3 years in a row.
2019: The Cat Returns Movie Review was number #1 this year. A Hat Time Review was two, Dr. Stone was three, Pokemon Day climbed to 4, and Girlish Number review snuck into the top 5. I really liked my Dr. Stone review and wished it would have been number #1, but oh well. Pokemon Day cracks the top 5 again. What grit!
2020 is not over yet, but let’s look at how things are shaping up: I’m Standing on A Million Live’s has a commanding lead for #1 at 151 views! Somali and the Forest Spirit review has a good hold on #2 with 71 views. Girlish Number is safely in 3rd with 66 views. Tower of God Episode #2 review and Manga Monday Tokyo Ghoul review are tied at 4 with 33 views. In 6th place as a dark horse is Dr. Stone at 31 views. This year has been amazing. I am so happy to see these post, which have been some of my favorites, getting the views. A Million Lives is not only the fastest post of ours to get to 100 views, it is the only non home page non welcome page to get to over 100 views. Welcome is at 1,087 and Home Page is at 980. Girlish Number is next with 73 views. For those of you wondering, Happy Pokemon Day is only at 10 views this year. That ranks 13th on the year.
I hope you guys liked a look back at the last 4 years of posting between the first 100 post and the 2nd 100th post. With any luck, we will be at 300 post some point next year. I cannot wait to recap stats again when that time comes.
Thank you guys for reading, as always. Have a great day! I will see you guys in the next one.
200th Post Celebration Part 2!
Okay, here is part 2 finally. There may or may not be a part 3 just depending on factors.
Part #1: 200th Post Celebration Part 1!
This took so long because I wanted to go and reread those old post and really put myself in my former shoes. I try to be open and catalogue parts of my life. So, without further ado, let us relive those glory days.
Daily Blog For February 2016- I was not kidding about it taking 4 years to do another 100 post. We followed up the roaring success of the Daily Blog Challenge of January Pokemon Theme with an utter disaster, Legend of Zelda. Now Zelda is not the reason it was a disaster. The reasons were plenty abound. For starters, I was playing Pokemon almost daily back than. So needless to say, daily post about Pokemon were so easy. Zelda, I was really relying on nostalgia. Topics were not easy to come by and memories were not really rolling out either. Secondly, school. School was brutal. I started attending a community college in my home county Spring of 2015. I moved in the Summer of 15 and began taking online classes that summer as well. I did so poorly over that next year (Summer 15, Fall 15 and Spring 16), though dates blur a little. I fell really behind and daily blogs began suffering as a result.
Secondly, I got a job as a substitute teacher. What a weird time in my life, truly. I did not work much for the 4 or so months I was eligible to work. However, I went to bed before midnight every night and woke at 6 am everyday just waiting for a teacher to call out. It rarely happened. I mean, really rare. I subbed maybe 4 times in 4 months. It was probably more than that but I do not remember more than that. Honestly, one day I woke at 6am and waited by the phone. It finally rang (though it was a text, it is more dramatic to say rang). I answered the call (text). I got dressed and was there until about 4pm. When I got off I had to go babysit at Jessica’s grandmother’s house. She worked the night shift and did not get off until midnight. I got home that night around 2am. I got up at 6am waiting for the phone to ring again. That was kind of just what I did until I gave up on getting calls. In April, I moved back to my hometown and got probably 2 calls a day, no joke, asking me to sub. I did not even have a phone at this time (Jessica broke it.). That was one reason I would miss out occasionally. Jessica was at work and before she could respond, they would have already filled the role.
Yeah, I went into a sort of depressing lull during this time. First, Dollar General did not put me in their system to transfer. Than, I got grazed over for subbing (though ultimately they would pick me up). Next there was the Gamestop employment scenario where Gamestop hired me and never worked me once. Boy did that feel like a mirage. My parents were really getting frustrated with me but it was hard finding work at this time. I helped babysit everywhere I could. I helped Jessica’s parents, her grandmother, I even would go 40 minutes back home to help babysit just to try and make money. I also got sick during this time and it took forever to get over what I had.
So, Daily Post took a big L. I also hyped up 3 big projects. Let’s look at those. The first one was a forum. The forum is still active but it is hardly alive. See for yourself, https://dahubbz.proboards.com/ You cannot blame me. I was channeling my inner middle school love for forums. I got comments from several regulars. I’m not sure if any actually followed over there. Needless to say, once blogging took a hit, so did the forum. Plus, kids today love discord. Commenters on my YouTube channel ask for discord, so maybe one day.
Which gets me to my next point, I started a Youtube channel! I kept telling myself I was going to so by gally, I did. It was wild. I was unemployed and could not find work. Jessica and I agreed a Blue Yeti was unreasonable right now. I spent one day watching videos about budget mics and finally picked the Samson Go for 30 bucks and used OBS to screen record. Sony Vegas and Adobe Premier are expensive, we were able to buy a life deal license for AVS video editing. That held us over until my brother got me a code for Vegas 14 for Christmas. Now I am onto Vegas 15. Back than though it was not great but it was enough to get us by. Watch our first video here. Here’s an example of a newer video
Up next was all the update post about Pokemon Sun and Moon. I was working with my dad when this game came out so I had some money. I bought Jessica and myself each a copy of Sun and Moon when they came out. We did not have capture cards so we recorded a make shift episode #1, laying in bed, both of us starting our new adventures. I don’t recall if we ever aired this episode.
And than, oh boy. Nintendo would unveil to the whole world The Nintendo NX! It amazes me we even had these questions (pulled directly from my blog in 2016) “What do you guys think of this new console? Will it reinvent the home console? Do you believe it is just a gimmick? Will this revitalize Nintendo or officially run them out of business.” However, the Wii U was considered the dark days but I braved it better than almost anyone and was rewarded with one of my favorite consoles ever, The Nintendo Switch.
Let’s back up and revisit the drought as I dubbed it. Daily blogs wrapped up on Feb. 20. 4 post would dribble out between than and March 14th. An update post. On March 14th I was still complaining about being sick. That sickness stuck with me and kicked my butt. Once this took me out and sub spots never existed I would sleep half the day. I also blame being unmotivated. I said I waited to the last minute and the quality was bad. This is still sort of true. Now, instead of it being almost entirely from a place of almost depression (though I will hesitate to use that word.), it comes from craving being productive in my real life. I take 6 classes and work 20-30 hours. Trust me, I am not bragging. It is more so to do with the fact I am a bad college student and balancing 6 classes during Covid is crazy hard for someone like me. I kick myself when I go to write a post, read a book, or play a game when I could be doing school. As a result, I don’t always have something to talk about.
Than I moved! April 6th I believe (maybe the 5th). That day changed my life. Things were getting bad for our mood and overall mental health. We had to move. We needed new work opportunities, no more online classes, more space, and, most importantly, a change in scenery. I already had a room picked out for an office and I was so excited for the new energy and what that would mean for the blog and channel.
Was I right or wrong about that energy? Find out in part 3. I never meant for this to be a multipart series but I have been enjoying reliving everything and reflecting. It is kind of the point of the blog now. Tomorrow I have class at 10:50 and than work until 9pm most likely. So, maybe I’ll make a post Thursday when I am off again? Really not sure.
Have a great day guys and thanks for reading!
Spooky Week Recap
Oh, boy. I really wanted Spooky Week to catch fire. However, between work and school, I fell behind on Monday right from the start. I reviewed Noblesse on Sunday to start. However, I wanted to read Deathnote Volume #1 for Manga Monday. I couldn’t find my manga. So, I tried to read Demon Slayer Volume #1 on Tuesday. However, between class and school. I left my house at 10am and got home at about 9pm. So, I wasn’t able to read it.
From there, my goal was to savage it Friday. I did my Top 5 Creepiest Pokemon on Friday. I wanted to do another Anime review on Saturday. Sadly, I was not able to do that.
So, I probably wont do anything really specific until after the school semester.
Either way, maybe we will try again next year.
Thank you for reading! Have a great day!
