Top 5 Pokemon from Kanto I never used but wanted to!
Top 5 are backs! And today we have a good one too.
Im currently playing through Pokemon Leaf Green. In the original generation (Kanto) there were 151 Pokemons (including Mew). With that in mind, for one reason or another, I’ve never owned all 151. Today, we’re going to look at some Pokemons I’ve never owned. Specifically, Red, Blue, and Yellow, as Fire Red and Leaf Green changed some things.
Lets get into the list:
#5 Flareon.
I had a tough time picking between Flareon and Jolteon. Honestly, this could include almost any electric type and any fire type. Their move pool was so shallow and they didnt learn good moves until it was basically too late. Using Flareon for example, it learned Ember at 31, Fire Spin at 44, and Flamethrower at 54? 54! That’s crazy. And the Pokemon Competitive scene (Which I wasn’t apart of at the time) had different rules. I cannot possibly see Flareon as being anywhere good enough for competitive standards at the time. But this trend of learning your best move in your 50’s was a common theme, and problem for that matter, for a lot of Pokemons. The problem may exist for many different types, but for me, Fire was the Poster Poke for getting messed over by this trend. Lets look at some of the other options:
Magmar is another fire Pokemon I love but the movepool problem plagued him. He learns Ember, Fire Punch, and Flamethrower. He learns Flamethrower at lv 55. It’s just too big of a problem.
While these problem specifically apply to competitive use, it also impacted my decision playing through the old games.
#4 Pinsir-
So, bug is argubly one of three favorite types, however they definitely got the short end of the stick in gen 1. Just wait until you hear this. There was only 4 bug moves! Let’s compare that to the others:
Flying: 7
Water: 9
Fire: 5
Normal: over 70!
Grass: 10
Electric: 5
Ghost: 3
Psychic: 15
Dragon: 1!
Fighting: 9
Ground: 6
Rock: 2
Ice: 6
Poison: 8
So, as you can see, Bug was not hit the hardest (That would be Dragon and Ghost), but its moves just did it no favors. I personally think Bug had 3 of the coolest Pokemons from Gen 1 in Pinsir, Scyther, and Beedrill. But they are almost unusable. If youre curious, the 4 bug moves are: Leech Life, String Shot, Pin Missile, and Twineedle. Despite looking awesome, I just never bothered to use one. On top of all that. Pinsir is a Blue exclusive. I never played Blue that much.
#3 Dragonite
Where to begin? It has the shallowest of shallow movepools. It’s only STAB move has a set damage of 40. It doesn’t even learn Hyper Beam until level 60. It’s just meh. Not to mention, getting Dragonite is a hassle. Dratini can be found in the safari zone. I believe it can be bought at the game corner, but I never really bothered with it. Now, Dragonite is one of my favorite Pokes from Kanto (As I love the design). I even voted for it in my Top 5 Pokemons that should be added to Pokken. Outrage would be added in Gen 2 along with a few few other moves. So that’s good and all.
#2 Horsea
I love Horsea. Unofficially she is my 2nd favorite Pokemon in Gen 1. Sadly for her, my favorite is Squirtle. I just never needed a second water type. Honestly, I’d probably be more inclined to pick Staryu anyway for obvious reasons. But I loved Misty’s Horsea in the anime. She is very precious. I do not know if I’ll ever use her in Kanto. Seadra’s best move is Hydro Pump. A powerful move with just 80 accuracy. Now, being a water Pokemon it does have access to Surf. TMs give it the availability of Skull Bash, Blizzard, and Hyper Beam. I do not know if Ill ever use Horsea as I use Squirtle in almost every Gen 1 adventure. And yet again, Staryu would still exist. But hey, maybe for fun one day.
Honorable Mention- Any of the trade evolutions (Machamp, Alakazam, Gengar, Golem), Weezing/Arbok, Fossil Pokemon (Omastar, Kabutops, Aerodactyle)
#1 Kangaskhan
This spot could go to most Normal Pokemon (Snorlax, Chansey, Clefable) and any safari Pokemon (Tauros, Chansey, Etc). It was hard to narrow down, but I ultimately settled on Kangaskhan. Her design is really fierce and the joey is sweet and would go on to be a big part of her Mega Evolution. Her movepool is amazing as she learns bite, Mega Punch and Dizzy Punch. Tms open her up to moves like Body Slam, Double Edge, Take Down, Mega Kick, Submission, Earthquake, and Rock Slide. She even learns Thunder and Blizzard but her special is not anything to write home about. I dont really remember if the anime highlighted her or not as it seemed to spotlight Tauros more but I could be wrong. Factor that into her being deep in the Pokemon Safari and that was all just too much for a young Pokemon Trainer to grapple with.

Daily Blog Challenge: February 19th Top Five Mask of Majora’s Mask
What songs did for Ocarina of Time, Mask did for Majora’s Mask. Right off the bat, I’ll say this was actually a pretty hard list to throw together(maybe the hardest one I’ve done) because you get past the transformation mask, the others do not do that much. But it’s the wackiness, charm, overall sense of accomplishment you get from collecting that mask that lands these masks spots. Today I’m telling you my favorite mask of the game (Excluding the transformation masks)
#5- Bunny hood- If it’s a hood is it technically a mask? I have a love/hate relationship with this mask, which is why it sits at number 5. Every time I dive into my adventure in Termina, I think to myself “Go get the bunny hood” I mean, you’re turning Link into a bunny rabbit which is precious, and you become a little speed demon. But in the other games it appears in(Notably Smash Bros) I feel like it makes me too fast. Weird compliant, but that’s just how I feel.
#4 Kamaro’s Mask- This mask man. I love this mask. As far as being my favorite, it’s virtual number 1, however, I believe it’s usefulness extends only to getting a heart piece. However, making Link bust out in dance is one of my favorite memories!
#3 The Couples Mask- In other words, the reward for the actual story line. I do not know if this a universal feeling, but I care more about the story of Anju and Kafei than the main quest. I think this has to do with my childhood experience. I never cared for the main quest of Majora’s Mask growing up. I mean, I’m older now and appreciate the existentialism feel of the main quest. Heck, this game is oozing existentialism, which is why I think this game aged well with me. However, back in the day finishing Anju and Kafei’s side quest is something I just recently finished on the 3ds remake. The Couples Mask was previously not obtained by my hands for over a decade! The usefulness of the mask in another story, but as far my heart goes, this is a special mask.
#2 Fairy’s Mask- I do not actually like this mask. It interrupts when you could be wearing literally ANY OTHER mask, but it is by far one of the most useful mask outside the transformation masks. I wish it added some property to Link’s stat such better magic consumption or better defense, but alas, if you go through with collecting every fairy, you will be rewarded

That’s right. We got a tie at number one!
I’ll start with the most useful of the mask.
The Stone Mask- I actually do not use this mask. I really mostly play as the goron or zora, so these other mask get in the way. But it makes you invisible to most enemies, which is beyond busted. It’s even a nice touch that you have to use the Lens of Truth to see the giver of the mask. Even though I do not personally use it, it sounds deadly enough to justify a top spot.
Now for my personal favorite
The Mask of Truth- If there is one side widget I’ve also been fascinated with, it’s the Gossip Stones. It’s another one those principles where I liked the mysterious feel to the stones so I never looked anything up about them to preserve the unknown. I believe in actuality, they are just the fortune tellers of this world. Though I would love for some duds to be in there or where they just give you bullcrap info. haha.
Anyway this list was a mix between usefulness and my favorite, but I think’s pretty fair. I really wanted the Blast Mask for the sake that is always the first mask(outside of Deku) that I get.

Daily Post: February 16th Top Five Islands of Windwaker
This was the top five I was going to do last Friday. I hope you enjoy
Wind Waker was beautiful, vibrant, and one of the most immersive Zelda games to date. The open world, vast sea, and countless number of Islands gave it a surreal feeling I think Zelda was missing for quite a while. So how I would rank the best of the best islands
#5 Temple of the Gods- Clocking in at number five, this is a great island(or structure) to start our list. The history is endless and a good bit of story points occur here. The initial dungeon is one of my least favorite, honestly, but once you unlock its special warp point and go underwater it becomes one of the prettiest areas in the game. The epic battles, the amazing landscape and, Link, Tetra, and King of Red Lions fates unfold on it’s sacred grounds.
#4 Outset Island- As its name might suggest, this is the first island. The one Link originally sets out on. I originally thought to put it 5th but it is such an emotional island for Link himself. From losing Aryll, to making your grandma nearly die from sadness, or encountering Tetra for the first time, scoring your first kill in the woods. There’s also several things to do when you return later in your quest such as feeding a pig, testing your luck and might at the savage labyrinth, and hang out with the crazy, old man Orca.
#3 Dragon Roost Island- It’s very hard to not give this island number one. It was the first island that showcased just how crazy and diverse islands can be. It’s inhabited by the Rito tribe, bird people. They’re the carriers of mail and the whole interior of the main building is simply a post office. But it’s what’s around the building that keeps you interested. A new song, a fun mail game, the fire temple, a little bit of baby sitting, and big freakin Dragon, all await you here in Dragon Roost Island.
#2 Forest Haven- The nearest island that resembles some vintage Zelda. Zelda is known for it’s forest, mountain, and ocean scenery. To which I think Forest is the most iconic. Naturally, this island gets high on the list. The island is meh from the outside. A big, bare tree swallows the horizon, quickly becoming the only thing you can see. Once inside, the island comes to life. The giant Deku tree and little Koroks give the environment the umph it needs, as well as the beautiful water that submerges the ground. You also get one of the more iconic items in Wind Waker, The Deku Leaf. Yay, Link can fly. The forest temple and the Nintendo Gallery on the outskirts give you plenty to do during your stay.
#1- Windfall Island- To probably no one’s surprise, Windfall is my favorite island. There’s so much to do here, and all the characters are interesting and exciting. There’s a new song, a school, some punk kids, a guy obsessed with the moon, the return of the pirates, the bomb shop, more pigs, plants to be planted, missing kids, an auction, a giant windmill, Tingle!, and you meet the King of Red Lions. Wow, and I’m probably forgetting half the stuff. This island is full of energy and emotion. There’s so many stories, adventures, and memories on this island’s soil. You will get lost in time doing everything. I think the characters and quests on this island make Wind Waker a memorable game.

Top Five Pokemon I want as Support Characters in Pokken
Following up our top five characters we want added as fighters, its time to talk about our top five wanted support characters.
But First, Confirmed Support Characters: Emolga, Fennekin, Snivy, Frogadier, Eevee, Lapras,Whimsicott, Jirachi
#5- Clefairy- Think back to the days where teams of 6 clefairy with only metronome as their move set was a thing. We can bring that back! Clefairy could show up and use metronome capable of using any move from splash to hyper beam. That would be insane. Honesty, this is probably my favorite idea, but it is not likely, so I am slotting it in at 5.
#4- Cresselia- Her goal would be to pop in use Light Screen, Reflect, Recover, or something like Psychic or Moonblast. When she appears she would use one of these moves based off who you are fighting and what the fight is like. Say you’re versing Machamp, she could use reflect to make his moves weaker or if you’re losing she can recover your health some. I am pulling for Cresselia, but there are a million pokemon’s with that move set. I could even root for Latias or Latios to promote ORAS. Whoever it is could really help swing the match or help you get back in it at least. It’s a solid idea.
#3-Mew- If were rooting for Mewtwo than we gotta be rooting for Mew! I don’t even care what the angle is. Mew is an awesome pokemon who could do a lot of cool stuff if you give him the spot. If they had finishers like in smash or mortal combat, it would be cool for mew to come in and help Mewtwo. I do not know how likely this would be since Jirachi is already confirmed and they could always use Celebi or any of the other base 100, but my hopes would be on Mew.
#2- Delibird!- Now this is almost as awesome as the metronome. He would play off his present move. He would have a set number of items from a Sitrus berry to sticky barbs. There would be a 50% chance he would give you the present and 50% chance he gives the opponent the present. He could add some randomness that would be fun against friends. I doubt this very likely either but it is a fun idea.
Honorable mentions: Muk, A stampede of Toroses, Any of the three birds, Any of the three lake pokemons, I’d say any of the eeveelutions but we already have Eevee, and Togepi, Chansey, or Arceus
#1- Bulbasaur- Come on, he’s the OG of pokemon(And thats coming from a Squirtle fan!). He has access to all the moves you would want from a support. Stun Powder, this could either slow your opponent down or make it where they can’t block. Sleep powder would wreck your opponent. Poison powder could drain life from them over an allotted amount of time and than something like Synthesis could gain you life depending on the weather of the stage.
I think Bulbasaur and the Cresselia option are the best as far as support goes. They aid you well and can hinder the opponent. Delibird and Clefairy are really more of fun ideas. Mew might not make it because Jirachi is already added.
