Zombie Madness OG Yugioh!

My Zombie Madness Recreation!
Hey guys, I’ve made post in the past about TCGs in general, but I’ve talked about Yugioh a few times. As much as I try to keep up with new Yugioh [and I’m not doing a great job of that.], I love Yugioh from 2002-2014 [off and on.]
As an old head, I tried to get into GOAT. Edison sounds cool with Lightsworn, E Heroes and Gladiator Beast, however I never played with Synchro monsters before I took my first break. Which is why I kept going back to GOAT.

Looking at GOAT decks got me so excited. However, looking at exact lists, I realized I never really played meta Yugioh. I was 8 and my brother was 6. I told my wife I remember playing two decks: Dragons and Warriors. I told her I remember playing Masked Dragon and the Armored Dragons. I remember my brother playing zombie cards like Pyramid Turtle and Vampire Lord.

Then it hit me. We played structure decks (And probably just tweaked them with our favorite cards). I did some research and realized Zombie Madness and Dragon Roar released at the same time. And, based on my memories I can assume I got the Dragon’s Roar and my brother got Zombie Madness.

I did some digging through our cards and was able to assemble what I’m calling Zombie Chaos. I wouldn’t say it is strictly optimized, but it seems really solid on the surface.

1x Sangan
3x Pyramid Turtle
3x Giant Rat
This line of play is what got me thinking. I remembered my brother playing Giant Rat and Pyramid Turtle. As I was looking at them, I noticed their synergy. When Sangan dies, he lets you search for a 1500 attack monster and add it to your hand. When Giant Rat dies, he can search for an Earth monster with 1500 attack and summon it. When Turtle dies, he can search for a zombie monster with 2000 defense or less and summon it. These cards form the back bone of consistency for our deck.

1x Ryu Kokki
2x Spirit Reaper
2x Vampire Lord
I don’t actually know the proper numbers of each to play, but these make up our zombie targets. Ryu Kokki is our beater. He will be better when I build my Warrior deck later. Vampire Lord had all the swag back in the day. And Spirit Reaper has proven to be an all star through the years. If there’s any Zombies I should add to the tool box, comment down below!

This is where I’ve taken some liberties with the zombie strategy. I’m not sure if we will keep it or not, but Black Luster Soldier is so cool. I know my brother and I loved this guy as a kid. Who knows if we ever summoned him properly as kids [haha.]. My light package includes:
2x Magician of Faith
1x D.D. Warrior Lady
1x BLS

1x Night Assailant
1x Breaker the Magical Warrior
1x Chaos Sorceror
I wanted some generically good dark monsters. These were the 3 I arrived at. Chaos Sorcerer is another good top end for the Chaos engine. Breaker is generically an All Star in retro Yugioh. I usually like to play Exiled Force in my retro decks, but I wanted the dark version of this effect for Chaos. Truthfully, Exiled Force may find its way into the sideboard as a searchable target for Giant Rat. I didn’t want this deck to lose its Zombie identity so I went a little light on the dark package. I would like to add a 2nd Night Assailant if I find one.

What does Yugioh call reanimation? Either way, we are playing Zombies! I wanted to lean into reviving. I do want a second Book of Life, but not sure I have one. Snatch Steal is a reference to the structure decks and the fact my brother and I jammed those in every deck as kids. Creature Swap is filthy in a deck with 7 recruiters. We can Creature Swap Giant Rat for one of their creatures and then swing into it and we still get the search off of it. Call of the Haunted is a classic and perfect for Zombies!

Classic Yugioh am I right!? Pot of Greed is naturally insane. Since I wanted reanimation to be a bit of a focus here, Graceful Charity and Card Destruction are gas here. Graceful Charity is card neutral [G.C. plus 2 discard balances out the three you drew.], but its card selection. For example, discarding Vampire Lord or Ryu Kokki and then playing Book of Life to reanimate it, while also banishing a card from the opponent’s yard [potentially messing up their own BLS], is a great tempo swing. It would also enable us to discard 1 light monster and 1 dark monster to special summon our BLS early. Its a busted card made better by the Zombie and the Chaos engines. Card Destruction is literally the same. The drawback is you can set up your opponent, but this is casual and I wanted more discard outlets.

2x Nobleman of Crossout
1x Fissure
1x Mirror Force
1x Torrential Tribute
1x Sakuretsu Armor
3x Compulsory Evacuation Device
I also go a little heavy on my removal packages in card games. This could definitely be tweaked for more thematic includes. The 3 Compulsory Evacuation Device are nods to the structure deck itself. Sakuretsu Armor was a favorite of mine back in the day. T. Tribute and Mirror Force are obviously busted. I threw Fissure in last minute to round out the list. It should probably just be Raigeki Break.

You work hard to cheat out BLS or Ryu Kokki, you need to have insurance. These 4 cards, plus Breaker the Magical Warrior can help clear the back row for your special summons. Magic Jammer is another interesting card we could run over some of the removal.
Thoughts
I played this last night against my wife. I was able to chain up very quickly. I opened with both Turtle, Rat, and a Heavy Storm so the match was pretty easy. Obviously, not every match will go that smooth. My brother is coming over Monday to play some more games, so, if needed, Ill revisit this post with any updates.
The idea was to recreate the structure deck of Zombie Madness [2005] to relive those old school duels my brother and I had without creating meta decks. The chaos engine may prove too unfun or too powerful, but that’s still to be seen. [Last night I didn’t see a single light monster.]. If it becomes too strong for our casual meta, I can always add some more thematic zombie monsters to lower the power of the deck.
Cards too considering: Raigeki Break, Magic Jammer, a 2nd Night Assailant, Mystic Tomato, Thunder Dragon, Tribute to the Doom, a 2nd Book of Life. If you are wanting to build this, just know if you go too heavy on the Chaos staples, the deck will lose its identity.
Format
So what’s the format exactly? The deck tries to thread a nice line of legal in GOAT while also being something we could have played in January 2005 when the cards came out. Mirror Force and Sangan are banned at the time of the Structure deck’s release but are legal in GOAT. So those are decisions you’d have to make for yourself. Since no one hosts tournaments off the ban list of January 2005 and the fact my brother and I didn’t really follow it to begin with, I used GOAT’s ban list as an outline, not a hard rule. Though, as I tweak the deck, Mirror Force and Sangan would be cards I’d considering cutting just based off the ban list of the time of the deck’s release. But again, this is a casual deck and you should just agree on a ban list with your friends.

Do you remember the Zombie Madness structure deck? What do you think of my version? Would you use this deck for old school Yugioh? What old school structure deck should I recreate next? I’m thinking the Dragon Roar deck!
Thank you for reading! Have a great day!
A Trip Down Memory Lane: Yugioh TCG
I work as an online inventory specialist at a card shop. This is just a fancy way of saying I put cards online. As a result, I am surround by TCGs everyday. I handle Pokemon, Yugioh, Magic, Digimon, Dragon Ball Super and plenty of others on a less frequent basis.
Because of this, I’ve been on a giant Yugioh kick. Thus, I’ve been making more post about it lately. Today I want to talk about Yugioh and how I fell in love with it.
I dont exactly know the complete history of Yugioh and the timeline. I know it was a manga created by a man who loved horror but wanted or needed to make a more traditional Shounen. So he made a manga about a card game with very grotesque and disturbed creatures. Sadly, a tradition that does not seem to be nearly as prevalent anymore.
I also think the anime predates the cards, or at least the official rules. That’s my understanding of it anyway. The anime, along with Pokemon, made up my childhood. I’m pretty confident I loved Pokemon more as kid. Yet, I never really did more than collect the cards. However, I was obsessed with the Yugioh card game. It was by far the card game of choice at school. We played it so often, it got banned in my 3rd grade class. We played it so much in 2nd grade. I think everyone from this time period remembers schoolyard Yugioh fondly. It is kind of like school yard basketball or football where you just played to have fun and it was wild. The creatures were iconic and the duels were a blast. The game has changed so much, I think that only adds to the nostalgic factor. People see all the new XYZ, Synchro and Link monsters and it is so far removed from setting your creature face down and setting 2 cards in the back row and passing your turn.
I’m learning so much about hand traps and creatures that negate effects and spells. It really is a different time, but it has been for a while. Honestly, I loved all of Yugi’s creatures and pretty much any creature in the anime, but Yugioh GX gave the Elemental Heroes and those are probably my favorite archetype in the whole series. My Brother’s name is Jayden and he was born in 03, so it was really something to see the main character have the same name as him. I also loved superheroes. So this was a great match. I feel like they gave the monsters a lot of charm and that made it all the more awesome.
I remember going to my local K-Mart and buying the Yugi Starter Deck and Kaiba Starter Deck for me and my other brother to play and duel countless hours away with. Going to Walmart or K-mart was a real treat back than as we could pick out booster packs to add cards to our collection. I still have a ton of the cards I opened as a kid. My brother and I would fight so much over cards we had to write our initials on them. I still remember when my mom enforced this rule. As an adult, it might be the cringiest thing I did in my youth. But that was the rule. Every time I see those cards I laugh a little and die inside a lot.
When I finished 5th grade and the summer wrapped up, my mom sat me down and told me I had to grow up. She said I would get bullied if I kept playing Yugioh. She wanted me to throw away all my cards. Well, I told her she raised me better than to care about other people’s opinion. I think it gave her a heart attack as I’m sure her co-workers told her this small minded crap. She got her wish, sort of. I did not throw away my cards. But as I drifted away from my brother and lost my elementary school friends. I had no one to play with anymore. So I put all my cards in a tacklebox and stuck them in my closest.
Boy, am I glad I kept them. I know play Yugioh as well as a handful of other games like Pokemon with my now wife. We love it. And my job is literally handling Yugioh cards. haha So, I stopped playing Yugioh for about 10 years and again for another 5, but I’ve found my way back to it for the 3rd time in my life.
Who knows how long this ride will last but I am here for it.
Thanks for reading and have a great day!
Life Update: New category, Youtube, and time away.
I fell in love with blogging almost a year ago. It was place to talk about anything: Mangas, School, games, you name it.
So why is it I havent made a post in nearly a month?
Multiple reasons.
- I’ve been sick and and unmotivated.
I had this cold back in February and it was not that bad. It keep me bed for long periods of time, because more than I was sick, I was just always tired. I don’t sleep right to begin with but I was always woke up before 11am. I can’t really say I have since I got this cold. Which makes being productive hard when I sleep for half the day.
2. School work out of nowhere.
If you follow my blog any you know in January I was doing a daily blog(If you didnt check it out than I highly recommend it) and was taking five classes and trying to start working. I was completely fine than. However, somewhere along the line my classes up’d the work out of nowhere and so many test, and written assignments, and discussions were due. I had to drop 2 classes just to even be able to balance all the things I was doing. It sucked.
3. Started a Youtube Channel
I’ve stated before Youtube was my first love. I started my first channel back in ’09 and slowly fell out of it. I went out and bought my first mic and editing software and fired up the dream once more. I started blogging back last summer. This Youtube channel has been in the works since the summer of 13. While the blog was a spur-of-the-moment thing and the youtube channel has been very calculated, I wanted to give equal attention. Sadly, I have not. The blog actually takes a lot of time and money(in some instances). Somewhere along the lines my time shrunk. This also goes hand in hand with motivation. Sometimes recording a youtube video is as easy as hitting record, playing the game, and just talking along with it. The blog, however, I either have to watch an entire anime, read a volume, or what have you, and than plan it out.
4. Decreasing Quality
Maybe the biggest reason. Watching anime, reading manga, playing the games, is not the the hard part. It’s the planning the post. I like to be insightful, unbiased, and salt in my own brand of off beat humor. I begun waiting to the last moment and just throwing together material and it got to the point of asking myself “Would I actually read this myself”. This has slowed me down greatly. Everything stems from being unmotivated. I get basically no hours at my job, my apartment is up for inspection later this month, I’m in this weird transition period between possibly transferring colleges and moving nearly 6 hours away, and everything kind of has me in a funk. One of the few things making me happy is making videos and my voice has been gone for the better half of a month so I cant even do that.

As the title suggest, I am going to talk about youtube.
I am currently doing a Pokmeon Golden Age Let’s Play. I think it is going to finish up with 8 or 9 videos. I also do unboxings every Saturday. I’ve already opened two mew collection boxes and will be opening the Celebi box sometime this week! I also will be opening the dual box for Magic the Gathering and the latest structure deck of Yugioh. My top fives will eventually migrate over to the channel as well. I’m working on putting together a let’s play of Pokemon Gray Topaz and Zelda: Minish Cap. I’m debating on doing Dragon Ball Z Legacy of Goku 2 and Super Mario 64. Anime and Manga reviews may or may not move over to the channel(They may stay a blog exclusive)

A new category. Crunchyroll has a random feature that will assign you a random episode to watch. I want to integrate this into the blog. I will watch episode one of a random anime that crunchyroll spits out at me and give my opinions on it and call this “Random Wednesday”. It’s just a test run but I’ll try it out either this Wednesday or the next so be on the look out!
Update- Daily Blog Challenge, Finally an announcement
So if you follow this blog in any capacity, you know I do daily posts. You also probably know I havent been doing it regularly. I’ve talked about this once, and I’m still having trouble with it.
A. I’ve been sick all this week. It’s just a running nose, sore throat, and cough. With the occasional headache. I do not take medicine for anything that wont kill me, so I’m naturally fighting it with water and sleep. Which takes time.
Also, I had a three page paper due and a test. Albeit, these are not hard, but the study and prep time take time away from the blog.
I’m happy to say I shuld get a top five out today for favorite Majora’s Mask mask. So if that interest you, stay tune!
I’ve talked about it before, but I’ll mention it again because it is relevant. I started this blog with the hopes of creating a safe and healthy environment for lovers of anime/manga/video game/etc to come together, to meet and discuss interests. I’m proud to say I took the next step today. I made a forum.
Here we have topics like “Suggest a manga to everyone” or “What anime are you currently watching” I’m open to suggestions and I really want to turn this into a hangout spot for everyone.
When I was Freshman in High School, I took part in a forum that changed my life. It was a pokemon forum and I made awesome friends. Unfortunately, those people(Myself included) all took a break from it and we failed to stay in touch. But that truly made my summer incredible. I was an introvert and did not have real good friends in school yet(that changed my junior year). But this was a big stepping stone into helping me grow out of some of those problems. I would love to give back to a community, the way a community gave to me.
Please do not hesitate to check it out, make suggestions, and tell your friends. Of course it is small now, but we can make it grow!

Thanks for taking the time to read this!
Check back later today for a top five, and next week for more big announcement
