The 5 Worst Nintendo Franchises!

Nintendo normally knocks it out of the park with their first party titles. Kid Icarus revolutionized the gaming industry spawning numerous sequels and giving us arguably the greatest video game character of all time, Pit. Ice Climbers was a juggernaut upon release. The game was considered so perfect, Nintendo decided a sequel could never live up to the hype of the original, so they have essentially retired the series. When Ice Climbers made it into Smash Bros Melee, gamers around the world rejoiced. Sadly, or totally predictable, the Ice Climbing duo were too powerful. As a result, they were subsequently removed from the series when Smash Brothers Brawl released on Wii.

So, sure, Nintendo established itself as a major player in the video market off the backs of series like Duck Hunt and Wrecking Crew, but not all series were a hit. Metroid was a disaster and almost bankrupted the company. But Nintendo didn’t want to give up on one of the female pioneers of gaming. Still, they couldn’t justify her on home consoles. Thus, her sequel was given life on the lowly handheld, the Gameboy. Metroid was given a second shot on the Super Nintendo. Another flop, often sited as the worst release by Nintendo. Samus would be relegated to handheld consoles two more times. Not to mention, after the absolute butchering of Metroid as a FPS, Metroid Prime 4 was delayed and ultimately canceled for the best. Not a single soul complained. It just goes to show you, no matter how many times Nintendo releases an installment of a horrible franchise, true gamers don’t forget the past mistakes.

Now, let’s take a look at Nintendos 5 Worst Franchises.

#5 Animal Crossing- When I was preparing this blog, I really thought this be number 1. How could it not be? This game is one of the most overrated franchises in all of gaming, let alone Nintendo. What do you do in this game? Seriously. You play as a kid whose sole purpose in life is to befriend animals. Doesn’t that sound horrible? Like, oh no, Sally the spider lost one of her 8 shoes and needs you to find it. Other task consist of paying off your debt. I mean, at least kids get exposed to how evil money is and how people will use it to manipulate them. So good job Nintendo capturing some realism there.

#4 Super Smash Brothers- Nintendo has long been loathed for repacking and releasing the same games over and over with new paint and funny names. Is there a series that is a better example of that than Super Smash Brothers? I feel like I’ve been playing the same game over and over. The series definitely peaked on the Nintendo 64. Every game since has just felt like an ad campaign. We get it, Fire Emblem (which is probably #6 on this list) could not sell world wide, so they snuck in countless numbers of characters to try and brain wash us into wanting Fire Emblem. Well, it still hasn’t worked and probably never will. The next release of Smash Bros, slated for release on the Switch 2 next year, was announced to have a roster comprised entirely of Fire Emblem characters. Have you lost all hope in the world yet?

#3 Pokemon- Give me a break with this one. Do 30 year old men still think it’s cute to film themselves opening Pokemon TCG boxes, or playing Pokemon Go? No cares if you found Mew under the truck. No one cares if you completed the Pokedex. And trust me, no one cares if you had all the original holos from the card game, especially how many Charizards you owned. Grow up.

#2 The Legend of Zelda. What a waste of potential here. I’m serious. Sure, Zelda 1 was a total bust. The franchise redeemed itself with phenomenal poise with the sequel, Zelda 2. Zelda 2 saved Nintendo. It helped restore faith with the general public. Despite this, Nintendo reverted back to the original formula. This contradicted all the good grace Zelda 2 built up. Then, there was the unspeakable sin. The point of no return, Ocarina of Time. The jump to 3D just wasn’t kind to the Zelda series. The Z Lock On tried to fix things, but arguably made it worse. The time traveling mechanic really bogged down the story and made certain parts feel bloated. It was a total train wreck that the series still has not recovered from.

#1 Super Mario- I guess it was always going to be Super Mario. I mean talk about a cash cow. At least other series like Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed and Madden attempt to change their games up with each release. How many times do I need to run, jump and collect stars? Isn’t this getting old to anyone? And not to mention, they are just slapping Mario on anything and hoping it sells. Why do I need Mario playing Golf, Tennis, Carts and any of the other countless side series? I can do all that in real life, thank you. So, without a doubt, Mario is easily the worst video game mascot and franchise of all time.

So, that’s my list. I could keep going with other Nintendo failures like Donkey Kong, Kirby and Splatoon, but let’s not destroy them too hard. Let me know you’re worst 5 Nintendo Franchises in the comments!

It’s been a while.

Last year was the best year in our blogs history. And I really wanted to build on that momentum. And while some stuff definitely happened, I still could have.

I actually got really bad sick on New Years. I was running a fever of at least 103 and shaking. And a few days later on January 4th, one of my best friends and co-workers died suddenly. It was easily the worst week of my life as an adult. And it seems shallow in comparison to those things, my graphics card in my computer died. So I’ve been without my computer for a while now. Hence, why videos and post have stopped. I really feel like the world doesn’t want it to work out. I went to record a digimon box opening and pulled the Omnimon Ghost Rare and then the SD card died.

It was a string of back luck that made me question doing all this side stuff. Maybe I should just focus on work and family. At the end of the day, I still enjoy blogging and recording, but the set backs are rough. Mostly because they require time or money I don’t have. I mean, getting a graphic card is not going to be cheap, so who knows when I’ll get my computer back.

I do have plans for some new blogs, but I’ll either have to do them on my phone or Jessica’s computer. Which I guess isn’t that big of a deal. I just really like editing these post on my computer. My phone is very much a 7 out of 10 experience.

Oh, well. If you’ve stayed following the blog after another month break, thank you for understanding! I want to announce something big tomorrow. So here’s to hoping I can actually pull it off.

That’s all for today. Have a great day!

GET 5 FREE VIDEO GAMES RIGHT NOW!

Hey guys. We’re back with the next round of FREE VIDEO GAMES!
Watch the Youtube that accompanies this video: GET 5 FREE VIDEO GAMES RIGHT NOW!! (Youtube Video!)

We will be checking out Amazon Prime and Epic Games for today’s write up.

Over at Games with Prime we’ve got some pretty cool looking games.

Double Kick Heroes is the game that interest me the fewest out of today’s platter. It is a rhythm based zombie shooter of sorts. Rhythm games really aren’t my thing. Neither are shooters. However, killing zombies to heavy metal tunes seems epic.

Ashwalkers is next. The initial summary did not sell me on it. However, watching the video Amazon Prime provided did make it sound really neat. The game plays like a survival walking simulator game. The art style is cold and seems to be primarily black and white. So visually, it is stunning tp say the least.

Ashwalkers

Following that is As Far as the Eye. This is another simulator game where you control the wind. From my understanding this is a game similar to the Sims or other games of that nature. It has some resource management built into it. You are helping guide the Pupils, the main tribe found inside the game. If you poorly handle their supply or get blindsided from the environment, such as water, your little tribes will die. Normally I wouldn’t play games like these. However, they are Jessica’s taste. As a result, we might stream some of it later.

Finally for Amazon Prime is Golazo! Soccer League.

Another game I was not sold on at the start. One thing that helps this game is the fact it is an arcade style soccer simulator. This just means it is a wacky, over-the-top version of the traditional soccer format. Another game I would normally pass on but the thought of playing two players with Jessica means we might snag this one while it is free.

So, all in all, I give Amazon’s selection a B-. It’s probably more fun if you’re into some niche genre’s or have some friends to play with.

Now on to Epic Games.

Epic Games is offering Windbound free this week.

Windbound for Nintendo Switch - Nintendo Game Details

Windbound combines two of my favorite things. Moana and Zelda. The art style has received praise from many different critics. However, those same critics have ripped apart the shallow feel of exploration and the tedious nature of the tasks and resource gathering elements of the game. Leaving Windbound to receive mixed reviews. Still, the game looks like a good time considering it is free. Don’t miss your chance to add an interesting adventure to your collection!

I’ve never played this game so I tried to include plenty of photos showcasing different aspects of the game. As it seems it is broken into two phases. The boating aspect and the land aspect.

There you have. 5 free games to start February off right! Thank you guys for reading! Have a great day!

Shin Megami Tensei V is on Sale (Via Walmart, Gamestop and Amazon

Hey guys, if you’ve been on the fence about picking up one of the hottest and latest Nintendo Switch exclusives, now might be the best time. I looked and looked for it to be on sale during Black Friday. Honestly, I didn’t see any good deals. Now that Shin Megami Tensei V is marked down $20 off at most major retailers, this creates a perfect buying opportunity for Nintendo Switch collectors and RPG enthusiasts alike.

(At the time of writing this article, I have no affiliate links with any of the mentioned websites. I do not receive any kickbacks if you buy a product listed below.)

I’m sure the game is worth the full asking price considering it is the next in a long running JRPG series, The Shin Megami Tensei franchise. A critically acclaimed series developed by the prestigious Atlus studios. Still, every bit of savings helps this close to the holidays.

Let me know if you guys end up picking up the game.

A Hat in Time Has a New DLC!

A Hat in Time teased a new announcement yesterday. That announcement turned out to be the first in hopefully a long line of new DLC. Launched under the name Creator DLC, Vanessa’s Curse will be live November 27th, 2021.

Vanessa’s Curse will be the first mode dedicated to the online feature. Make sure you watch the trailer because there’s a lot of goodies to unpack here.
Watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrIKafwyKmQ

The more exciting news here is that this is a new branch Gears for Breakfast will hopefully put to use. They allow nearly anyone to propose an idea for upcoming DLC. Then they will accept applicants they approve of which will give them access to more tools than regular modders. This allows fellow modders to make larger in scope projects. I am hoping to see even more creative modes and levels as time goes on. Each project will have a unique price and Vanessa’s Curse’ price hasn’t been announced yet.

So, yes. This mod looks good and brings something fresh to the A Hat in Time game. But what is truly exciting here is to see what all comes out of it. I look forward to it. I will be covering this DLC soon after it comes out.
