Today’s Theme: Favorite Water Pokemon
There’s so many awesome water pokemon, but let’s cut to the chase. If you know anything about me there can only be one answer. I do not even care if it’s a starter.
My Favorite: Squirtle
Seriously, what more can I say about this guy? He was my very first pokemon. He was there when I killed my first Rattata. He was there when I caught my first Pidgey. He was there when I got my first badge. His pokedex number 007, once my favorite characters in cinema and all around iconic character James Bond. I’ve already mention on here how I tried to talk my friend into dressing up like Charmander and Squirtle and have a battle in our hallways for senior prank. Squirtle will always be my first beloved pokemon, and one of the reasons I always come back to the franchise. This guy had his own gang for crying out loud. For me he is one of the things that makes the original Red and Blue so awesome. There’s no better feeling than to set out from Pallet town with him by my side. He’s empowering and much like Charizard, Pikachu, and Mewtwo, he’s become just as huge of an icon for Pokemon. He is simply the best pokemon of all.
Whose your favorite Water pokemon? Also who was your very first starter? Did they have a impact on you. For me, I turned on Pokemon Red the first time over 15 years go. I probably played pokemon before I even started school. It’s hard to remember exactly.

Today’s Theme: Favorite Grass Pokemon
Oh yes. Grass pokemons. Some types I relate to more than others. Grass is one of those types. Coming out of high school one of the things I wanted to study was ecology. I wanted to study ecosystems and how populations played a role in that ecosystem. I’ve said many times this is one of my justifications in liking pokemon. I feel like playing pokemon lets be be an ecologist. Yeah. Now I do not normally keep grass pokemons on my team but I enjoy them and do find them visually pleasing.
So whose my favorite: Chikorita!
I know we’re suppose to stay away from starters but I could not help it. Chikorita is adorable and stays cool through it’s evolution line. The problem with grass, like most types I’m learning, is that most of the cool dudes are dual typed like Breloom and Shiftry. Shaymin is cool as pure grass but I think it gets beat out by Celebi who is Psychic/Grass. Not to mention Black and White’s legend trio that’s Grass/Fighting .
I like the type. It’s very visually appealing and provides a lot good energy on your adventures, but at the same time I normally do not catch them with the illusion of using them. As individuals, some are frail and others are forgettable. As a whole, I do enjoy grass pokemon a lot.
So whose your favorite? Let me know in the comment section.

Today’s Theme: Favorite Dark Type
Today we’re talking dark pokemons. This finishes off the smooth and creepy guys. I like dark pokemon. Theyre very interesting and was one of the first types added after the originals. The pure library is slightly lacking with only 10 pure dark pokemon. However, Darkrai is one of those so they aren’t that bad off.
So whose my favorite: Absol
Yes dark has some sweet dudes. A legend in Darkrai, a mega evolution in Absol, and Umbreon gives it some heavy hitters. Absol is one those gems of third gen and one of my better memories. He’s my brother’s favorite pokemon. His mega form’s design is fierce but questionable at the same time. He looks like a lion with Pete Wentz as his hair dresser. But hey, if that’s my only complaint, it can’t be that bad.
Today’s a short one because I did not get a lot of time to throw this together with school work(I took a break to jot this one down).
Check back tomorrow, were almost done with the types!
Thanks for taking the time to read all this!

Today’s Theme: Favorite Psychic Pokemon
Ah, yes. One of the best types in the whole game. They’re cool, they’re edgy, mysterious and very fun. I think what makes them so awesome is their impressive library of legendary pokemons. Mewtwo, Mew, Deoxys, Mesprite, Uxie, Azelf, and Cresselia. That’s just the pure psychics! Their powers and abilities to defy physics makes them very cool to study and very powerful to watch. The only sad part is we cannot pick legends because Mewtwo is an OG man.
So whose my favorite: Alakazam
The sad part about pure psychic pokemons is that once you get away from the legends it’s not that hard to narrow down the best. Espeon is sweet and Wobbuffet and Unown get a boost from the anime and movies. I was fascinated by Mushama but I did not put enough time into black and white to really have memories with it. Most of the others are odd balls. I did use Espurr and Meowstic to beat X so I do enjoy it.
Alakazam is easily one of the coolest pokemons of any type. He has insane special attack and speed which makes him a near auto include when you need a special sweeper. Not to mention he has a mega form! He was one of the four trade evolutions from gen one which means some players might have never used him. That is a sad truth for I’m sure many old school players.
Anyway whose your favorite?

Today’s Theme: Favorite Bug Pokemon
Bug pokemons get a bad rap and deservedly so if were just looking at pure bug pokemons. They don’t offer much. I know what you’re saying, “But DaHubbz, what about Butterfree, Scizor, Scyther, Heracross” That’s just it. Almost any cool bug pokemon is a dual type. There’s really only two bug pokemons I would deem cool.
So which is my favorite in this lack luster typing: Pinsir.
Yeah, probably a no brainer. He’s been one of my favorite since the beginning and I think really shows how cool pokemons can be but also how cool pure Bug pokemons can be. They don’t all need flying or steel or poison. Pinsir is just straight up bug and he’s killing it(Lets forget how it lost to Ash’s Metapod, ok). It has bulky attack and defense stats and a very solid speed. The only drawback really is based on it’s moves it could use the fighting type, but that aside he is a sweet pokemon.
The other bug pokemon that I like is Accelgor. He kind of looks like that shady, cool drug dealer we all know.
What’s your favorite bug pokemon? Let me know in the comments

Today’s Theme: Favorite Electric Pokemon
Electric Pokemon are some of the most and adventuress pokemons and they are great. They remind of youth and fresh energy. I think I would definitely keep one of my team in real life because they provide that spark I would probably need for adventuring day in and day out. And as Ash has learned over and over, they can be quite shocking.

So who be my electric pokemon of choice: Electrivire
Electrivire is one cool customer and not a guy I would look forward to fighting. He was one of my favorite additions to Diamond and Pearl. He is one of the few physical attacking electric pokemons. And unlike some of the other physical attack electric pokemons, Electrivire had the moves to back it up. He had access to most of the punchs allowing him to cover a good range of attacks and had Earthquake which pack a nasty punch. How the fun would be raising a elekid all the way up Electrivire. Elekid was my favorite electric pokemon up until Electrivire release. That whole evolution line is sweet. I think they are heads and shoulders above the rest of the pure electric pokemons next to Mareeps evolution line.
So whose your favorite Electric Pokemon? Leave it in the comment section.

Today’s Theme: Favorite Fairy Pokemon
Oh, yes. The latest type thrown at us in our pokemon adventures. I did not know what to make of this type originally, but it has more or less grown on me. Anything that completely blanks a dragon pokemon is fine in my book. The mascot for the fairy pokmones was Sylveon. A very gimmicky, but albeit, a cool pokemon nonetheless. Sylveon was also here to showcase the new way to play with your pokemons to obtain a new form of max happiness. I was under the impression(Maybe foolishly) that Slyveon was going to be one of the few fairy Pokemons. What they did instead was change the typing of a lot of the old pokemon to pure fairy pokemon. They made nine pure fairy pokemons for X and Y. In addition, they also changed 6 previously normal pokemons to pure fairy typing(Cleffa, Clefairy, Clefable, Togepi, Snubbull, and Granbull). A few more of previous pokemons (Jigglypuff, Azumarill, Gardvoire to name a couple) were given the fairy typing almost making fairy one of my favorite typings, okay it was not that extreme, but they added some cool pokemons to help get fairies started.
So, quick history lesson aside, whose my favorite pure fairy type: Clefairy
I guess this a match made in heaven. After all it is CleFAIRY. In all seriousness, Clefairy is a cool pokemon. It has one of the more extensive backstories of the originals. The idea of pokemon from space was pretty cool. Gamefreak must think so too if you see the Pokemons they have coming from space after this(Deoxys, Jirachi maybe even Mew). I even made a point that celestial should be it’s own typing Here!
Anyway, enough with how cool space pokemons are. Rather this is a rumor or not, I read Clefairy was originally going to be Ash’s first pokemon(And I pretty sure was Red’s starter in the original manga back in the day). I do not know how I feel about this. Ash’s Pikachu is pretty great but I do not care much for other Pikachus. I can picture Clefairy laying in the pokecenter after being demolished by Surge’s Raichu and Ash holding his hand out, in it, containing a moon stone. Clefairy chokes up at first. Than, she boldly double slaps the moonstone out of Ash’s hand. She waltz up to that Raichu the next day and uses metronome and down comes the strongest, fiercest thunder from the sky(Gym ceiling?) and totally obliterates Raichu.
So whose your favorite fairy pokemon? Let me know!

Today’s Theme: Lamest Pokemon Design
I do not like being negative, but Pokemon is not all gold. Sometimes it just misses the mark. Today were going to look at the lamest pokemon design.
Now, the community seems to hate on Jynx, Vanillish, Garbodor, and a handful of others. I dont necessarily hate any pokemon. If you read into the lore and Japanese culture, most pokemon make sense or, at least, become a little more reasonable to defend.
My beef lies in the pokemon that just seem like utter copy cats. Namely: Dedenne.
So, why dedenne specifically? Now, I may be incorrect, and feel free to correct me if I am, but most of the electric mouse pokemons that came after Pichu just seem like Gamefreak cashing in on Pickachu’s fame. I’m fine with ever generation have a pidgey-esque character, but Pikachu and his line should’ve been a one and done. His shoes are just to big to fill and I dont think any of the rip-offs have touched me the same as the original yellow haired rodent.
This wasnt the first example of ripping off previous pokemon either. Hoenn gave us a ton of new and awesome pokemons, but it also gave us some blatant rip-offs with slight spins. Wurmple’s line were copycats of caterpie, but I’m willing to let this pass because it was some of the early examples of evolution depending on gender(which is pretty cool.) Seviper, Plusle and Minun, and Feebas didnt help the cause either.
I find this to just be more lazy than bad or stupid. I mean, some of these example they tried to spice up a little, but Dedenne seems like they just made Pikachu a little smaller, orange, and gave him antenna whiskers and called it a new pokemon. At least, X and Y was able to give him a fairy typing to help try and make him a little unique.
Anyway, whats your least favorite design for a pokemon? Why? Did it look just plain dumb, or was there no originality to it?
Challenge: After you comment/think of your least favorite pokemon, see if it’s inspired by any Japanese legend or lore. You might be surprised what inspired some of those weird looking hooligans.

Top Five Reasons To Love Pokemon!
Were closing out Pokemon Week so it’s only fitting to do this top five!
#5 Pokemon Never Gets Old- It’s true. Even after so many years, I still want to go buy a Gameboy Color and play Gold/Silver and Red/Blue.The games are priceless just for sheer memory value(Which I’ll be getting into in a later point). That’s just the game portion of the Pokemon world. Season one is on Netflix and every kid from the 90’s had the pleasure of refalling in love with the beloved show we all grew up on. It’s pretty sweet.
#4- The World Of Pokemon Is Beautiful and Wonderful!- You gotta understand, I love breaking down worlds. I do it every time in Manga Monday and Anime Reviews. The Pokemon world is great. Simple montages of pokemons in their habitats puts a big smile on my face. Coming out of high school, I wanted to become an ecologist. I am sure that explains this part of my love for Pokemon. Heck, day dreaming about pokemons in their habitats might be why I wanted to become an ecologist in the first place. Put shortly, it is real precious to watch pokemons in their daily lives.
#3 The Games Keep Getting Better- Okay, so there is a group of people known as Gen Oners or First Gen Elitist or whatever you want to call them. I’m not saying anything is wrong with Gen one, it was great and some of my best memories of the franchise happened there. BUT… Boy, am I glad it kept going. Johto is my favorite region and I think X&Y have done wonders with the game. It is crazy to reflect on how far it has come, seriously. If you quit playing Pokemon after Red and Blue, you should be upset with yourself. I dare you to play through the 6 gens. You will see they just continually get better. Of course, some Pokemon’s have gotten quite weird, dumb, and just plain silly, but the franchise as a whole is going strong and making awesome updates. I didnt think a pokemon game would ever touch Silver, than Platinum came out. I didnt think a pokemon game would ever touch Platinum. Than X&Y came out. Somehow, they just keep getting better.
#2 The Bond With The Pokemon- Maybe this is number 1 for a lot of people, and rightfully so. Spending hundreds of hours with your pokemon’s, raising their levels, traveling the world, you can’t help but love your pokemon by the time the journey is all over. One thing I thought the show captured so well was the bond between trainer and pokemon(Except with Charizard of course). Watching Pikachu and all the other pokemon’s fight hard for their trainer and how they wanted to train hard and grow stronger was so cool to watch. It definitely was well expressed and I love that about the show.
#1 History- Yeah, there is a lot of it with this franchise. I remember years ago picking out my first Squirtle and traveling Kanto with him by my side, or collecting all the vhs’s and doing the poke rap!, or feeling bad for Ash because he is really bad at pokemon and most of the gym leaders felt bad for him so they just gave him badges, or when Brock Misty and Ash say their goodbyes and your younger self just cant handle the thought of no more new Pokemon. Yeah, I, like almost every pokemon fan, have cherished memories of the card game, anime, manga, and the video games!
This is only scratching the surface, I didnt even mention the friends you make through pokemon, the new interactions theyve added, crushing your rival, playing competitively, capturing legends, filling the pokedex, finding shinies, building a team. The list is never ending.
So why do you play Pokemon? What got you into it? Why’d you stick around for however long? What’s your fondest/earliest memory with the franchise? Leave it in the comment!
Top Five Pokemon I want added to Pokken Tournament!
With Pokken Tournament recently announced to be coming stateside, now’s a better time than ever to discuss future Pokemons to be announced. I’ll leave my top 5. You guys feel free to say who you’d like!
The current roster: Pikachu (Pikachu Libre), Machamp, Gengar, Charizard, Lucario, Gardevoir, Weavile, Suicune, and Blaziken.
#5- Nidoking- This guy is awesome and could be a tanky character. He’s dual type and hes built like a fighter. His moves could range from a projectile sludge bomb attack, to a close range earthquake. I think the potential is there to work him in.
#4- Breloom- Breloom seems like a prefect fit. He is fighting so he has an array of fighting moves like focus punch and dynamic punch. Since he is grass he would be a versatile fighter. He could use moves like leech seed or mega grain to steal hp to add to his own. He also has access to moves like sleep powder, so he could be a very obnoxious troll character. He was also famous for substitute into a focus punch back in the day. We could bring that back.
#3- Scizor- Come on. This seems like a no brainer. The Scizor family tree is a fan favorite and could work very well with either one of them in. Neither Bug or Steel are represented on the rooster, and scizor is a great way to change that. I am not sure all the mechanics(Like can you raise attack and defense mid fight). If this were the case, Scizor could use swords dance and iron defense to beef up and than mega evolve to be unreal. Just a thought. A game thought
#2- Dragonite- This would be so insane. Dragonite is amazing and the OG of dragons. He has access to hyper beam and outrage and a surprisingly large amount of electric moves. He could drop a thunder down from the heavens. On top of that, he has extreme speed to close the gap before seguing into Outrage. He wanted to keep some space between himself and the opponent, he could use twister to damage them and then push them back. He would than follow this up with hyper beam. He is also flying, so he would have a hover side to him. His aerial game would be on point. Him and mega Charizard would have some insane sky fights. Now tell me you wouldnt want to see those two duke it out in the sky.
Honorable mentions- Blastoise, Metagross, Aggron, Primeape, Regirock, Deoxys, Heracross, Sceptile, Any eevelution
#1- Mewtwo- Of course its Mewtwo. Who else could it be. Mewtwo is awesome and, in a way, is a face of the pokemon world. I would say just as many old school Pokemon fans who do not keep up with it anymore know Mewtwo as they would Pikachu. Mewtwo would be a great reason for an old fan to rediscover pokemon in this brand new way. Sure we have Gardevoir, but its safe to say Mewtwo could do some different things. In my mind, Gardevoir would play like a wall. She could use reflect and light screen to block attacks, while Mewtwo would boost his offence with calm mind and bombard his opponent with psychics and he is faster. I dont know if there is a story mode for this game, but Mewtwo would be the perfect final boss. I could imagine a boss fight mode where you have to beat the two mega evolutions for Mewtwo. Now that would be amazing.
These are just MY opinions on game mechanics and future characters. Go watch the trailer and than comment on who you would want to see!
