Sunday Was Rough…

Most of the time this blog is for entertainment as we review Mangas or talk video game news. However, the blog also serves as a journal sometimes as I track my highlights and lowlights. Last night was definitely a lowlight.

We rushed home to catch the Chiefs Bill’s NFL game. At halftime Jessica asked me where Elizabeth was. We couldn’t find her anywhere. So we went to her usual spot in the guest bedroom. Boy, we couldn’t have guessed what was waiting for us. We found Elizabeth, but it’s the where that’s mind-blowing. She was under our house.

The floor in the guest bedroom is caving in. She fell in somehow and got stuck. This house truly sucks and I don’t even think Jessica and I have really gone into detail about it. Well, either way I spent almost 6 hours trying to get her out and finally rescued her and was in bed by about 5:30am. It was miserable.

Yesterday was pretty rough. Our bodies haven’t recovered from it and there’s a lot of mental anguish as well with the housing market and our job situation. Wednesday will be a great day and we cannot wait to share some pretty big news with you guys.

So here’s to looking on the brightside. Stay tuned! Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Sora is the Final Smash Brothers Character

Earlier this week Sora was revealed to be the final Smash Character. There was a lot riding on this as we have been informed this is the last Super Smash Brothers DLC character. There was great wonder if it would be a Nintendo first party character or if they would go internet breaking third party. I figured it would be either the protagonist from Shin Megami Tensei V or Master Chief. So personally, I was a little disappointed to see it be Sora.

Obviously, Kingdom Hearts and Sora have a beloved, devout and dedicated fan base. I do think Sora was worthy of the final spot even if he wasn’t my first choice.

So that’s it. Are you happy Sora got the spot? Who would you have over Sora? And what do you think of Kingdom Hearts coming to Smash Bros.

It Is Nice to Get Out and Do Stuff

As discussed from yesterday, tonight Jessica and I went out with my dad and step-mom to go see the new James Bond 007 movie, No Time To Die. So this was back to back nights going to the movies. It is a nice feeling getting back out in the world and doing stuff again now that movies are returning. This was a small post today because of stuff I’ll be talking about next weekish.

Anyway, No Time to Die and Venom 2 were both great! I highly recommend either one if you’ve seen their previous installments. Anyway, have a great night everybody and thanks for reading!

It is a Venom Day.

Jessica and I had the impulse decision to bust out our Venom 1 blu-ray and subscribe to AMC’s 20 dollar a month package. This package let’s you pay 20 dollars and then you get to watch 3 movies every week with no extra charge (on tickets at least haha).

So with our lunch we watched the first one. Now we’re at the Theater getting ready for Venom 2.

So should be a fun night. Tomorrow we’re watching the new James Bond with my dad.

No Blog Today.

No blog tonight guys. I worked until 11:40 and now I’m sitting in Taco Bells parking lot trying to get dinner haha. Probably will be working late tomorrow but I’ll try to have an actual post tomorrow.

Either way, it’s good to write regardless of what it is to stay in a groove.

So anyway, thanks for reading and have a great night.

New Comic Book Day Haul #2

Hey guys were back with our next round of comic book pick ups!

Spider-Man Life Story Annual #1
King Spawn #1
Darkhawk #1

I picked up four comics this week. Darkhawk #1, Spiderman Life Story Annual 1, King Spawn and Thor 16 (Not Pictured). Admittedly, kind of an underwhelming and exciting week. I’m only on issue 12 of Thor so I have a long way to go on it. I’m not a huge Spawn fan but the King Spawn being a number one intrigues me. Darkhawk was a favorite of mine when I was younger, so to see him back is awesome. I only have 2 issues of Spiderman Life Story. So while I love the idea, I’m a little ways away from reading it.

So that’s my Haul! Let me know what new comics yall are reading! Thanks for reading and have a great night everyone.

Unlock Zeraora in Pokemon Unite! Early Access Bonus! Dont Wait!(Nintendo Switch)

Hey everybody. Pokemon Unite released Free to Play for Nintendo Switch owners last week! We discussed our early thoughts in a previous blog post. Be sure to check that out here.

Now it is important to make sure everyone knows Zeraora, one of currently 20 playable characters, is free for a limited time as an early adopter bonus. If you love Pokemon, MOBAs, or are just looking for something different to play, there is no reason to miss out on this electric heavy hitter.

Zeraora’s Pokemon Unite stats mimic his in game stats. He is a powerful mix sweeper with nice speed. However he is fragile. This why pairing him with a support Pokemon or the eject button battle item can go a long way in providing longevity to the electric glass cannon.

I’ve used Zeaora early on with a sub optimal build , but he is still nonetheless very fun to play with.

Let me know if you’ve taken advantage of this deal and scored the Sun and Moon legendary for free! Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Digimon BT4 Deck Profile #2 Piedmon Purple (Rough Starting Point!)

Hey guys, were back with more Digimon deck techs! I think this is one of the harder brews to build because it is a midrange deck. This means it is not a linear strategy nor does it just jam 4 of each card. There is a real balancing act for this deck. Before we get into that. You guys seemed to like my last Digimon deck tech of Blue Green Imperialdramon Dragon Mode. If you have not read it, feel free to read it here. It is a bit more aggro relying on jamming and just just going for security checks.

The reason this deck is so challenging to build is because it is a very flexible deck. Meaning it is not a straightforward archetype. For starters, check out the namesake card here.

Piedmon was one of my favorite Digimons from the anime. I was drawn to the value of this card because, quite frankly, the value is outrageous. Being able to return 2 level 4 or lower Digimons is insane momentum. It also helps guide the direction of the deck. However, we lose on play effects. Meaning these guys are the best candidates I could find.

Devimon - Release Special Booster - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer.com
Devimon - Starter Deck 06: Venomous Violet - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer.com
Vilemon - Release Special Booster - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer.com

Really, the way I am designing this deck is to be super stalling. Which is why Vilemon and Starter Deck Devimon are great. No on play effects, so that is not a draw back here. Devimon’s BT2-074 retaliation is a great recursive ability to use to kill your opponent’s Digimon. Currently I am running 4x Vilemon BT2-072 4x Devimon BT2-074 and 2x Devimon ST6-08. But let’s also remember we can return Level 3’s as well. Sadly, level 3’s are really lacking in this deck.

Dracmon - Starter Deck 06: Venomous Violet - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer.com
A strategies Purple deck with Plutomon and Cerberusmon – DIGIMON CARD META

These are two of my favorite to run. With my configuration, I have 3 more spots left. Tapirmon BT2-070, Impmon BT2-068 and Labramon BT4-079 are all interesting picks. I would go with Tapirmon.

If you were trying to turbo into Beelzemon, I would go Impmon. And if Labramon was not an on play effect, I might would go Labramon. However, neither are those things work here, so Tapirmon it is.

Thats the level 3’s and 4’s for now.

LV 3’s

3x Tapirmon BT2-070
4x Gabumon ST60-03
4x Dracmon ST6-04

LV4’s

4x Vilemon BT2-072
4x Devimon BT2-074
2x Devimon ST6-08
4x Meramon BT3-083

Meramon - Release Special Booster - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer.com

That’s right. 4x Meramon too. Now Meramon is not a great return target. It has no abilities like blocker or retaliation. So in a way, even with having 1000 DP more than Devimon, it is not a better attacker. This is because Devimon will kill almost anything it swings into, even if Devimon does not survive. However, it belongs to a cycle of aggro/ramp like creatures. By this, I mean it is a LV 4 with an Evo cost of 1. Look at the other level 4’s in the deck. Most LV 4’s will cost you 2 memory to evolve. He only cost 1. If your opponent gives you a good amount of memory or you have the 4 cost Purple Matt, you digivovle all the way to your LV 6 in one turn.

Next up are the LV 5’s.

4x Skull Meramon BT3-085
4x SkullSatamon ST6-10
3x Kimeramon BT2-077
2x LadyDevimon BT3-088

SkullMeramon - Release Special Booster - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer.com
Kimeramon - Release Special Booster - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer.com
LadyDevimon - Release Special Booster - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer.com

The 5 drops are a confusing bunch of characters. I’m not really sure what to make of all the numbers. SkullMeramon is here to further the ramp plan. This would allow us to aggressively digivolve into our 6 drops quickly. SkullSatamon I feel is needed to help recur our bigger dudes like getting Piedmon back to keep looping lower guys. Kimeramon is a great utility creature. Sometimes I wonder if we should run 2 because we have to blow up our own creature. However, our ability to get back creatures should help offset that drawback. LadyDevimon is probably the biggest question mark. I haven’t got to playtest her yet, so she might not fit well. Honestly, might cut her for more options or lower LV Digimons. However, draw 2 seems strong in a deck that does not mind the trash bin.

Finally LV 6’s.

2x Mastemon BT3-090
1x CresGarurumon ST6-13
2x Piedmom BT2-080

Piedmon - Release Special Booster - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer.com
CresGarurumon - Starter Deck 06: Venomous Violet - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer.com
Mastemon - Release Special Booster - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer.com

Further more. LV 6’s are another tough group. I only have the 2 Piedmons. I might end up picking up 2 more if I like the deck. CresGarurmon is mostly here to get Dracmon back. Since on play effects still trigger, Dracmon can get back Trump Sword or Nail Bone. Mastemon was a last minute addition when I was playing a Yellow Purple Anubismon deck. However, her ability to instantly “perform” a security check and recur a creature seems like too much value to pass up. I own a third one and might add it if I like her enough. The thing I don’t like about CresGarurumon and Mastemon is that 4 Evo cost. In the games I have played, my opponents rarely get me above 3 memory, which makes playing them a real cost.

Options and Trainers

2x Trump Sword
2x Nail Bone
3x Purple Matt

Trump Sword - Release Special Booster - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer.com
Nail Bone - Starter Deck 06: Venomous Violet - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer .com
Matt Ishida - All Digimon - In Print CCG/TCG Sealed | TrollAndToad

Personally, I find it hard to get Trump Sword to go off. I’m hoping the presence of Blockers and the threat of retaliation keep the opponent from swinging in. If that’s the case, Trump Sword should be cast easier. Things can get awkward when the creature you want to kill swings in and reveals Trump Sword off the security check. That can be a feel bad. Nail Bone is great because it is basically extra copies of Piedmon. Purple Matt, I feel, is a must for the deck. Being able to return 1 Digimon or even returning Nail Bone can be a huge swing. On top of that, it fixes your memory allowing for the swift evolving from LV 3, to Meramon to SkullMeramon into a LV 6 all in one turn. I might be tempted to bump it to 4 if I want to cut the LadyDevimons.

Digi Eggs

2x Xiaomon
3x DemiMeramon

CARDLIST|Digimon Card Game
DemiMeramon - Release Special Booster - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer.com

Purple’s eggs feel a little underwhelming to me. I can’t wait to test out Xiaomon. I assume even with the recursion aspect of the deck, we will still be filling up the bin often enough to trigger Retaliation in the inheritable effect. DemiMeramon is here because I like his effect more than Yaamon or Pagumon. BT6 will give us Tsunomon with a better effect. Check it out here,

So here’s the official deck list for now! Starting with eggs and moving from LV 3 and up and ending with Options and Tamers.

Digieggs 5

2x Xiaomon
3x DemiMeramon

LV 3’s 11

3x Tapirmon BT2-070
4x Gabumon ST60-03
4x Dracmon ST6-04

LV4’s 14

4x Vilemon BT2-072
4x Devimon BT2-074
2x Devimon ST6-08
4x Meramon BT3-083

LV 5’s 13

4x Skull Meramon BT3-085
4x SkullSatamon ST6-10
3x Kimeramon BT2-077
2x LadyDevimon BT3-088

LV 6’s 5

2x Mastemon BT3-090
1x CresGarurumon ST6-13
2x Piedmom BT2-080

Options and Tamers 4/3

2x Trump Sword
2x Nail Bone
3x Purple Matt

Here’s a bad picture of the deck

Tamers, Eggs, LV 3’s, LV 4’s
LV 4’s again, LV 5’s, LV 6’s and Options

Changes

With only 11 LV 3’s I could see someone not liking that. Remember we aren’t an aggro deck in the sense that we aren’t out to hit all their security checks ASAP. However, that cost us some early draw power off of digivolving. I might remove the LadyDevimons for early 3 drops. In a similiar manner, we could run some Yellow digimons to better utilize Mastemon. If that was the case, we could also run Wizardmon.

Digimon Trading Card Game 2020 V.1 Single Card Common Wizardmon BT2-071 - ToyWiz

I could totally see you wanting to go with this angle if you want more retaliation than blocking power. You could run this set if you want to attack more than being passive. My problem is what yellow Digimon would we even run? You could run Falcomon and BushiAgumon if you wanted to run an aggressive rookie rush build. In fact, that was part of the original Anubismon deck. You could still run Dracmon and Nail Bone and have LV 3s and 4 to recur. You could run Unimon if you wanted another blocker. This starts to become an entirely new version of the deck though. As I think it is entirely too hard and not worth it to splash yellow just yet. However, I definitely would like some form of recovery that yellow provides. I just don’t think the card exist yet for that version.

Other cards I would be interested in are different options.

Night Raid - Release Special Booster - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer.com
Heat Viper - Release Special Booster - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer.com
Back for Revenge! - Release Special Booster - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer .com
Death Claw - Starter Deck 06: Venomous Violet - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer.com

No doubt Back For Revenge and Night Raid gets better in an Anibusmon shell. Heat Viper is probably a must if your meta was Rookie Rush but would be terrible in Zoo stacked metas. Death Claw is also amazing if you are up against Rookie Rush all the time. You’re able to get it back with Dracmon which is huge against them. But in there lies the issue with the above 3 options. If they were 1 or 7 memory and could be returned using Dracmon, this deck would be insane. As it stands now, Death Claw might still be worth running if you can find the spots for it. If it hits, it is insane value and gets rid of most blockers in the meta and rookie rush threats. If it is ever dead, you can pitch to one of your draw/trash effects and get it back later if it ever becomes relevant. If Digimon ever adds a sideboard, I would jam some in there for sure.

DanDevimon - Great Legend - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer.com
Lilithmon - Release Special Booster - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer.com

In certain versions of Piedmon Purple, I could see wanting either of these cards over, say CresGarurumon or LadyDevimon or Mastemon. If you run Lilithmon build your deck to maximize and take advantage or the draw/trash effects in purple. You might even run Beelzemon in that build. DanDevimon just looks fun. I’ve never tested him though. I only own one.

Millenniummon - Release Special Booster - Digimon Card Game - TCGplayer.com
Hell's Gate BT4-112 R Digimon Great Legend ENGLISH Playset x4 - NM

If you find yourself losing to some of the bigger threats like Omnimon, Argomon and Mega Zoo, Milleniummon and Hell’s Gate can be used specifically with those cards in mind. Again, if Digimon every adds sideboards, I think that’s where these guys belong. If you had a way of recurring 6 memory options, it certainly is worth a 1 of spot with purple’s ability to draw/trash (such as trash it on a drew effect and get it back with purple Matt).

So there you have it. That is most of the relevant cards we could discuss. Remember, I brought up a lot of different ways to build the deck and different flex cards that are totally meta dependent. If you verse a wide meta with many different strategies and win conditions, Purples ability to turn dead cards into live draws is a huge plus. I personally did not construct this build that way. I focused more on getting blockers back and hiding behind retaliation creatures. But that makes this deck a great option for a wide event. However, since this is not a set in stone archetype, I highly recommend playtesting with your locals and finding what tools you need. As stated, Death Claw and Heat Viper will completely rock Rookie Rush but be stone cold dead to Mega Zoos. Piedmon Purple lacks a true dedicated route to victory. It hopes to kill stuff, block stuff, and eventually outlast the opponent. Gaia Force being Red instead of Purple is a real shame here. No, I’m not sure it is worth splashing red to get access to it, for now. I don’t feel like BT4 added much to this deck unless you went for the Anibus Shell or added DanDevimons at the top of the curve over the other 6 drops.

So, please tell me what changes you would make. Midrange decks are always so hard to get the numbers right.
Also, tell me what decks you want to see next. I’m most interested in: ShineGreymon Yellow, Some Black deck, Argomon/Ceresmon Green, Chaosmon, or maybe even a MegaZoo deck. I have some other ideas kicking around about Purple, but I will wait.

I am also thinking of doing an upgrading the starter deck post. Basically where we talk about what upgrades you could bring to those decks to be ready for locals play.

This was a long one and I thank anyone who reads and/or comments ideas and suggestions. Thanks so much guys! Have a great days!

Top Five Best Designed Pokemons from Gen 3 (Top 5 Friday)

When analyzing Generation 3’s Pokemons, one thing became clear. This Gen is top loaded and well balanced. This is kind of problematic for this list. Let’s break it down. First, the top loaded. This list, like all my others of this type, exclude legendaries and starters. As a result, Hoenn loses what it did so well. Blaziken, Sceptile, Swampert, Deoxy, Rayquaza I could go on and on about how well designed this subset of Pokemons are. They are some of the best in the entire series of starters and legendaries, and none of them will be on this list. I like to spotlight some of the lesser known Pokemons. However that gets us to the second issue.

It’s well balanced. In most other Pokemon games, if you remove legendaries and starters, the top 5 are obvious. However, very little separates these Pokemons. I think the top 3 are obvious, I think theres about 10 Pokemons that could be battling for the 4th and 5th spot. I wouldn’t blame anyone for moving Pokemons on this list or having ones I didnt even mention. In fact, my list might change next week if you ask me. Anyway, let’s get on with the list.

#5 Aggron- When you see what misses the list, you’ll see what I mean. I actually never got to use Aggron. Aron is so bad, I haven’t been able to evolve it. I’m trying to fix that with my current playthrough of Emerald, but he is still my weakest mon. All that aside, Aggro is ferocious, well designed, on the champions team and represents a new type. All things that give him a lot of street cred.

#4 Altaria- I was going to give Altaria the 3 spot, but on second thought, I feel like my new #3 is more iconic. Something Altaria has in common with the top 2 Pokemons on this list is that they got a Mega form when ORAS came out. Altaria loses a little bit of its charm when you realize this Generation gave us, I think 4 Dragon types. Generation 1 just had Dragonite’s line. I dont believe Johto gave us a single Dragon. Hoenn gave us at least 4 dragon lines. She is awesome, a gym leader used her and she got a Mega. Again, it was tough separating these early entry Pokemons but I think Altaria did enough to crack the list.

#3 Breloom- I actually think solely from a design perspective struggles to make into the top 5. However, I think it was the first grass fighting Pokemon to exist and in the competitive scene it was a beast. It was able to set up substitute and barrage its enemies with focus punch. I can completely see someone wanting a different Pokemon in this spot but I feel he was an iconic strong gen 3 Pokemon with a unique typing that is awesome and hasn’t happened a lot, and it had a clear defined role in the meta. I think all these characteristics are enough to find a spot on this list.

#2 Salamence- I could see some people wanting this at #1, but I’ll explain. When Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire came out, he was undoubtedly one of the coolest Pokemons ever, including legendaries and starters. However, as time gas moved on, I think he has lost a lot of his luster. I think design wise he is one of the coolest dragons in the game, but he wasn’t the original (that honor goes to Dragonite) and he has to compete with all the other dragons in just this generation, namely Rayquaza. Still there is no denying how epic he was in his debut. He was featured on Drake’s Elite Four team, is a dragon type, was a clear OU in the metagame, and his design is just so hard to beat.

#1 Metagross- Metagross is a very interesting Pokemon. He takes the top spot in my list for several reasons. Steel was still (hehe) a new type. Prior to this generation, only the magnemite line, Skarmory and Steexlix had the distinction of the type. Gen 3 did add a handful of new steels including Registeel, Mawile and the aforementioned Aggron, but unlike Salamance, Metagross is the coolest steel type this generation. He also was a nondragon pseudo legendary. Something only himself and Tyrantiar can say. As the series would go exclusively Dragons for the pseudos as the series progressed into newer regions. He was the iconic Pokemon on Champion Steven’s team. He was powerful and had a clear role in the competitive scene. He checks off every box needed to be #1. I could see people rooting for the giant flying dragon, but I’m giving the nod to Metagross today.

So there’s my list. I think generation 3 was summed up by Metagross and Salamence (excluding starters and legends) and my list reflects that. However there were so many great Pokemons that just did not separate from the pack like Gardevoir and Miltoic. I think Gen 3 might have the best roster top to bottom because it does not have many dud Pokemons. Theres still the arbitrary early bugs, but every gen has that. Some Pokemons like Linoone and Kecleon can get lost in the shuffle but they’re never really bad. So this was a tough top 5.

Let me know what 5 Pokemon would have made your list. Thank you guys for reading and have a great day!

We Got Married!

Hey, everybody. Jessica and I are officially married. We have been for a week now. Here on the blog I havent had any luck in getting Jessica to make appearances. I’m still working on that. However, on the YouTube channel, we have done several Co-OP Let’s Plays such as A Hat in Time, Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee, and Heave Ho. Weve also done plenty of pass and plays such as Katmari, Kirby 64, and Pokemon Stadium. We have also done series where it’s just her playing but we co commentate such Pikmin and Legend of Zelda Link to the Past.

In other words, she has been very supportive of my YouTube endeavors. Our LPs together are not only some of our more viewed videos but they are also by far my favorite videos to do. Our Super Mario 64 Race Against the Clock and Heave Ho stand out to me as some of the best times I’ve had with her. I think our LPs are very metaphoric of our relationship. Without her, it’s just not as fun and something always feels like it’s missing.

She has been an absolutely amazing addition to my life. She has loved me unconditionally, she has an open mind towards all my hobbies. Shes a big Pokemon (video game) Naruto (anime) and Spider-Gwen (comic book) fan. All franchises and forms of media she didnt really care about before we got together. Shes super nice and tolerates all my weirdness. So all those pluses in my book.

She supported me while I was in college struggling to find work. Even though this meant working 40+ hours, long shifts, two jobs or missing out on things she wanted to do with her money. Those memories are ones I’ll never forget. Now that I work it’s hard not to want to spoil her.

Anyway, she hasn’t been very active on the blog but maybe we can change that.

Either way, one week is in the bag. Heres to a million more.

I love you, kiddo. Heres to the future.
